Role Overview
Assistant Manager - International Taxation at QNB, Qatar. This is a Qatarization position within the Finance Division, Financial Services Department, based in Doha, Qatar.

Role Purpose
The incumbent will assume prime responsibility for coordinating taxation issues within the Group. This includes deduction of Withholding Tax on applicable payments, analyzing and ensuring timely submission of tax returns and payments to local tax authorities, and providing professional taxation service support that contributes toward the Group's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Shareholder Management
- Support ongoing tax provision requirements for the bank's local and international operations in coordination with Specialist International Taxation.
- Ensure reasonableness of the tax charge and regularly review compliance with Withholding Tax and other tax requirements.
- Assist in the ongoing taxation process and progressively review opportunities for legitimate tax planning across the Group.
- Demonstrate clear understanding of the factors behind the bank's financial and non-financial performance.
- Observe and promote cost consciousness, efficiency and productivity to minimize costs, avoid waste, and optimize benefits for the bank.
- Act within the limits of delegated powers and adhere to QNB policies.
Compliance & Tax Operations
- Coordinate with various Divisions and Departments within the bank to ensure tax compliance and record explanations for deviations with escalations as required.
- Assess the status of tax return submissions and compliance.
- Prepare and submit the bank's tax returns.
- Withhold tax accurately with expertise in Withholding Tax deduction from payments if applicable.
- Develop, enhance and maintain the taxation matrix summary listing various tax requirements in jurisdictions where the Group operates.
- Ensure adherence to taxation policies and procedures.
- Identify tax risks and design mitigating actions to limit liability across all operations.
Coordination & Governance
- Coordinate taxation due diligence activities across the QNB Group.
- Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with all related departments and units to achieve the Group's tax goals and objectives.
- Liaise with the Group's IT Department to ensure taxation reporting needs are timely resolved to the extent dependent on required system enhancements.
- Liaise with concerned departments and IT Department to resolve all observed inaccuracies in outputs and systems.
- Assist customers (external and internal) with queries on Division products and tasks and seek solutions to their requests.
Stakeholder Management & Reporting
- Coordinate with various Divisions and Departments to ensure tax compliance and escalate as required.
- Maintain activities in accordance with Service Level Agreements with internal departments and units to achieve improvements in turn-around time.
- Provide timely and accurate information to external and internal Auditors, Compliance, Tax Authorities and Risk Functions as required.

- Possess good knowledge of taxation laws and maintain understanding of all pertinent regulations and best practices pertaining to taxation.
- Take responsibility for self-development and acquire skills and knowledge required to fulfill duties by proactively identifying areas for professional development.
- Seek out opportunities to remain current with all developments in the professional field.
- Maintain appropriate knowledge to ensure full qualification to undertake the role and complete all mandatory training provided by the Bank.
- Attend mandatory internal and external seminars as instructed by the Bank and attain and maintain required levels of competence.
Legal, Regulatory & Risk
- Comply with all applicable legal, regulatory and internal compliance requirements including QNB Compliance Manual, Group Compliance Policies and Procedures covering Anti Money Laundering, Counter Terrorist Financing, Sanctions Policy, Data Protection Policy, Fraud Control Policy, Whistle Blowing Policy, and Conflict of Interest and Insider Dealing Policy.
- Contribute to and comply with the Bank's Risk Framework in accordance with the Bank's Governance Manual, consider Risk Appetite and promote a positive Risk Culture.
- Understand and effectively perform role under the Three Lines of Defence principle to identify, measure, monitor, manage and report risks.
- Ensure systematic good outcomes for clients in accordance with Conduct Risk Policy.
- Support the framework of RCSA, KRI, Incident Reporting and Remediation as appropriate in accordance with Operational Risk Management requirements.
- Ensure high standards of data protection and confidentiality to safeguard commercially sensitive information and maintain utmost confidentiality regarding customer and internal bank information.
- Maintain high professional standards to uphold QNB's reputation and strengthen its market leadership position.
Ad Hoc Duties
- Perform all other ad hoc duties and activities related to QNB that management may request from time to time.
Qualifications & Experience
- University graduate with Bachelor's degree, preferably with major in Finance, Banking, Economics, Mathematics, or Accountancy or related field of study.
- Professional certification such as CPA, CA, or Taxation Certificate is a plus.
- Preferred minimum of 3 years' experience in a Professional Accounting Firm, Tax Consultancy or Major Bank with exposure in the taxation function.
Skills & Competencies
- Good oral and written communication skills including report writing in English.
- Arabic or French language skills are desirable.
- Withholding Tax expertise and accurate deduction capability.
- Professional taxation service support delivery.
- Taxation strategy and tax advice provision.
- Knowledge of taxation laws and pertinent regulations.
