Role Overview

Well Engineer - Integrated Service Projects at Weatherford UAE, based in the United Arab Emirates. This role provides well engineering design, screening, and technical support for pre-tendering and tendering activities, while supporting operational governance during active tenders and project execution.

Role Purpose

The Well Engineer ISP delivers comprehensive well engineering expertise across the full lifecycle, from design and screening through operations and abandonment. The role combines technical leadership with operational support, enabling efficient project delivery while maintaining alignment with company standards, client requirements, and host-authority regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering

• Conduct full well design, including casing design, kick tolerance, barrier identification, torque and drag, hydraulics, swab/surge analysis, directional planning, and anti-collision assessment.
• Conduct detailed offset well reviews, including analysis of offset wells, assessment of design standardisation opportunities, identification of key risks and lessons learned, and preparation of risk-register inputs for tender BSAs.
• Present detailed offset well engineering peer reviews to stakeholders.
• Prepare Basis of Design documents where required.
• Demonstrate competency in Landmark design applications and other recognised well design software; additional digital design experience is beneficial.
• Ensure all designs meet Weatherford, client, and host-authority minimum design standards.
• Assess technology implementation opportunities across the full well lifecycle.
• Prepare Engineering Peer Reviews, Strategic Opportunity Reviews, and Drill-the-Well-on-Paper reviews.
• Chair or present reviews to relevant stakeholders.

Operations Support

• Provide day-to-day operational support and ensure the wellsite team and superintendent fully understand the well programme.
• Review daily drilling reports and daily performance to ensure they accurately reflect operations.
• Track time versus depth and performance KPIs, and report any positive or negative deviation from plan.
• Support the superintendent with logistics, ensuring no rig idle time and that all personnel and services are at the wellsite just in time and demobilised efficiently to reduce cost impact.

Governance & Compliance

• Ensure the Bridging Document, SIMOPS, and MOPO are understood and followed.
• Understand the MOC process and ensure it is implemented for any deviation from the plan or design standards.
• Ensure that all proposed engineering solutions meet applicable regulations and standards.
• Support Health, Safety and Environment objectives and proactively align project objectives with HSE requirements.
• Prepare, manage, and update operations risk assessments.

Well Planning & Documentation

• Prepare and maintain well programmes, abbreviated well-specific programmes, and well summary montages.
• Identify and set performance KPIs.
• Capture lessons learned from offset well studies.
• Review global and industry lessons learned and ensure they are implemented in real time into each well programme.

Risk & Tendering

• Prepare deterministic and probabilistic risked time estimates for tenders and future operations.
• Prepare risk-register inputs for tender BSAs based on detailed offset well analysis.

Technical Assurance

• Ensure all Product Line and third-party technical proposals are fit for purpose and meet Weatherford ISP and client requirements.
• Assess and evaluate technology or service applications, both Weatherford and third-party, that can improve operational or QHSE performance.

Stakeholder & Knowledge Management

• Maintain an understanding of internal Weatherford groups and support effective interaction between them and Reservoir Solutions Well Engineering.
• Provide visibility for Reservoir Solutions Well Engineering in the industry by supporting participation in SPE conferences, workshops and forums.
• Co-author technical papers where appropriate.

Digital & Analytics

• Use AI, digital solutions, and software platforms such as Power BI, Copilot, and ChatGPT to analyse and present data clearly.

Qualifications & Experience

• 8+ years of related design and operations experience across multiple aspects of the well lifecycle, including drilling, completions, workovers, production, well abandonment, subsurface, and project management.
• Experience in full lifecycle activities from drilling, completion, workover, intervention, production enhancement and P&A/Decommissioning.
• Experience at the wellsite as a wellsite engineer or night drilling supervisor is advantageous.
• Experience working with operators and integrated projects is highly beneficial.
• Land and offshore operations experience is beneficial.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong competency across plug and abandonment, drilling, completions, workover, and intervention activities.
• Knowledge of NORSOK D-010 and other recognised global P&A design standards.
• Ability to develop optimized engineering and technology solutions.
• Competency in Landmark design applications and other recognised well design software.
• Proficiency with AI, Power BI, Copilot, ChatGPT, and other digital tools.
• Thorough understanding of the well engineering lifecycle.
• Ability to conduct detailed offset well studies.
• Ability to prepare deterministic and probabilistic risked time estimates.

Additional Information

• The role requires understanding of MOC (Management of Change) processes and operational governance frameworks including Bridging Documents, SIMOPS, and MOPO.
