WELDING SUPERINTENDENT (P/L)

Role Overview

Welding Superintendent position with NMDC Group. This role oversees all welding operations on offshore barges and vessels, managing personnel, equipment, procedures and safety compliance throughout structural, piping and pipeline welding projects.

Role Purpose

Lead all welding activities on board offshore vessels and job sites, ensuring structural integrity, regulatory compliance and safety. Manage welding personnel, procedures, equipment and quality assurance while coordinating with supervisors, inspectors, clients and third-party contractors.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Oversight

• Supervise all activities associated with structural, piping and pipeline welding on board offshore barges and vessels.
• Take charge of all welding activities on board the vessel and job site.
• Conduct toolbox meetings with welding crew and promote safety awareness among them.
• Supervise setting up of welding, bevelling and clamping equipment and inspect the same for correct settings.

Planning & Resource Management

• Identify requirements for personnel, equipment and welding consumables to meet project requirements prior to offshore mobilization.
• Monitor consumption of welding electrodes, shielding gases, welding flux and other related material and report short-falls or request replenishment ahead of time to warehouse and field engineer.

Training & Qualification

• Carry out welding trials and qualification of welding procedures.
• Train welders and welding operators at offshore locations.
• Maintain welders' qualification validity.
• Implement the applicable welding and QA/QC procedures.

Coordination & Communication

• Coordinate with Welding Supervisors, Foremen, Welding Inspectors and third-party NDT personnel.
• Coordinate with client, third party and inspection team on welding issues.

Quality & Problem Solving

• Troubleshoot welding-related problems and maintain progress.
• Take necessary actions to establish a safe working environment in compliance with Company codes and HSE standards.

Qualifications & Experience

• Secondary School Certificate with a discipline-specific technical qualification, or equivalent.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in Oil & Gas Industry.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge of SMAW, FCAW, mechanised SAW processes and automatic welding using GMAW (pulsed) process in 5G downhill position, air-arc gouging and repair welding.
• Working knowledge of structural, piping and pipeline welding codes such as AWS D1.1, ASME B31.3, API 1104 and DNV OS-F 101.
• Sound technical knowledge in welding processes such as SMAW, SAW, GMAW, FCAW (inner shield), STT and welding of various materials including carbon steel, stainless steel and CRA clad steel.
• Conversant with client specifications and welding standards.
• Capable of interpreting radiography films of welded joints.
• Ability to read and understand welding procedure specification and inspection plan documents.
• Good written and spoken English language skills.
