Role Overview

Water Boss at NMDC Group. The role coordinates and supervises all marine support activities associated with dredging and reclamation operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous movement of vessels, barges, tugs, and support craft while maintaining compliance with company procedures, project requirements, and applicable maritime regulations.

Role Purpose

Serve as the primary point of communication between marine assets, dredging crews, reclamation teams, and shore-based management to ensure uninterrupted project execution.

Key Responsibilities

Marine Operations Coordination

• Coordinate daily marine operations to support dredging, reclamation, and construction activities.
• Direct and monitor the movement of dredgers, tugs, barges, workboats, and other support vessels within the project area.
• Coordinate vessel arrivals, departures, anchoring, towing, and shifting operations.
• Monitor dredging production and marine logistics to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
• Support project planning by scheduling marine resources and optimizing vessel utilization.

Safety & Navigation

• Ensure safe navigation and vessel positioning in accordance with approved marine traffic plans.
• Monitor weather forecasts, tide conditions, and sea state to ensure safe marine operations.
• Ensure all marine permits, navigation warnings, and operational clearances are obtained before commencing activities.

Communication & Coordination

• Maintain effective communication with vessel masters, marine crews, project engineers, and site management via VHF radio and other communication systems.
• Coordinate fuel, freshwater, provisions, crew transfers, spare parts, and other marine support requirements.
• Coordinate with survey teams for dredging alignment, reclamation boundaries, and vessel positioning.

Compliance & Reporting

• Ensure compliance with NMDC Group HSE policies, international maritime regulations, and client requirements.
• Maintain accurate daily operational logs, vessel movement records, and marine activity reports.
• Report operational issues, equipment failures, delays, and incidents promptly to project management.

Health, Safety & Environment

• Conduct daily toolbox talks and promote a strong safety culture among marine personnel.
• Ensure all marine activities are conducted safely and in compliance with company HSE procedures.
• Stop unsafe work whenever hazardous conditions are identified.
• Ensure personnel wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Promote environmental protection by preventing marine pollution and ensuring proper waste management.
• Ensure housekeeping and environmental protection measures are implemented throughout marine operations.
• Participate in emergency drills and safety meetings.

Emergency & Incident Management

• Coordinate emergency response activities during marine incidents and assist with evacuation or rescue operations when required.
• Assist in investigations of marine incidents, near misses, and operational non-conformities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime Studies, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Minimum 5–10 years of experience in marine operations, dredging, reclamation, or offshore construction.
• Previous experience as Water Boss, Marine Coordinator, Marine Supervisor, or similar role is preferred.
• Experience working on large-scale dredging and land reclamation projects is highly desirable.
• Relevant maritime certifications are an advantage.
• Valid seafarer's medical certificate (where applicable).
