Role Purpose

Under the supervision of the Lead Technical Inspector (Quality Assurance), perform initial, in-progress, and final inspections on military, commercial, and other forms of communication equipment. Make proper classification determinations as it pertains to US Government property, assist shops with troubleshooting, use proper TMDE in daily operations, and test and troubleshoot all forms of communication systems belonging to customers.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection and Quality Assurance

• Perform initial, in-progress, classification and final inspections.
• Operate and inspect communication equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot defects.
• Conduct tests on equipment that has been serviced, repaired and overhauled to ensure operating efficiency before returning to customer.
• Inspect, check and test all types of communication systems being work ordered to the shop.

Technical Operations

• Use technical manuals, bulletins and written directives in the performance of all inspections.
• Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
• Use proper TMDE in the daily operations phase.
• Troubleshoot, service and repair communication systems work ordered by customers.

Parts and Compliance

• Order required repair parts using appropriate parts manuals.
• Perform PDQR process when receiving improper or damaged repair parts.
• Comply with OSHA, EPA, and Fire Regulations and published company work rules.

Workforce Support

• Give and receive instructions to all of the workforce in the shop.
• Assist shops as needed with troubleshooting processes.

General Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum of six years continuous experience performing maintenance services on communication systems of combat tactical vehicles and other communication-related systems.
• One year of related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

Skills & Competencies

• Possess technical skills to identify different repair requirements as it pertains to communication equipment.
• Expert knowledge of technical and commercial manuals for servicing, operational and repair procedures.
• Expert knowledge of corrective actions performed by maintenance teams and ability to ensure equipment is FMC when cleared by the shop.
• Ability to troubleshoot, service and repair communication systems.
• Full knowledge of TMDE and its proper usage.
• Proficiency in how the repair parts system works and what to do when it does not work correctly.
• Proficiency in all phases of paperwork that pertains to services, maintenance, repairs, classification and related documentation.
• Expert knowledge of maintenance prints to establish workload priority.
• Expert knowledge of communication test procedures and processes.
• Expert knowledge of equipment operations as it is critical to working as a subject matter expert for the shop.

Additional Information

Working Environment

• Work is generally conducted in a shop environment; however, duties may involve work in outdoor areas with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.
• May require lifting up to 50 lbs, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting and working with or in areas where potential exposure to physical, chemical or biological agents exists.
• Employee use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas, including head, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices.
• Must comply with OSHA, EPA, and Fire Regulations and published company work rules.
