Role Purpose

Under the supervision of the Lead Technical Inspector, this position performs initial, in-progress, and final inspections on various types of military, commercial, and other automotive equipment. The role ensures proper classification determinations for U.S. Government property, conducts damage assessments and cost analyses, and validates that serviced, repaired, and overhauled equipment operates efficiently before returning to customer.

Key Responsibilities

Inspections & Classification

• Perform initial, in-progress, classification, and final inspections.
• Operate and inspect equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot defects.
• Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
• Conduct Tests on Serviced, Repaired and Overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency before returning to customer.

Technical Assessment & Documentation

• Use technical manuals, bulletins and written directives in the performance of all inspections.
• Conduct Actual Cost of Damages (ACOD), Estimated Cost of Damages (ECOD), and Estimated Cost of Repairs (ECOR).
• Perform battlefield damage assessment and repair (BDAR).
• Perform technical research and ensure operational readiness of assigned equipment.

Supply & Systems

• Order required repair parts using appropriate military or COTS technical manuals.
• Utilize Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-A), DOD CAC access required.

Support & Operations

• Assist Shops as needed with Troubleshooting processes.
• Use proper Test Measurement and Diagnostics Equipment (TMDE) in the daily operations phase.
• Understand the automotive repair shop equipment and functions in order to provide assistance and coverage whenever needed.

Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Requires civilian trade qualification or US Army/Air Force/USMC Wheel Mechanic or equivalent (DD214 required).
• One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

Experience

• A minimum of five (5) years' experience in Automotive Repair, Shop operations or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of two (2) years' experience as a Technical Inspector.

Skills & Competencies

• Possess the technical skills to identify different repair requirements as it pertains to Automotive Equipment.
• Expert knowledge of Technical and Commercial manuals for Servicing, Operational and Repair so that the correct procedures are used on the proper equipment.
• Expert knowledge of Corrective Actions performed by the Maintenance Teams and ability to ensure that equipment is FMC when cleared by the shops.
• Full knowledge of TMDE and its proper usage.
• Proficient in how the repair parts system works and what to do when it doesn't work correctly.
• Proficient in all phases of the paperwork that pertains to Services, maintenance, repairs, classification and related functions.
• Expert knowledge of the maintenance prints so as to be able to establish workload priority.
• Expert knowledge of Load Test procedures and processes.
• Expert knowledge of equipment operations as it is critical to working as a master driver for that shop.
• Ability to inspect, check and test all types of automotive equipment.
• Working knowledge of the Army Corrosion Prevention program.
• Knowledgeable of the Army Maintenance Management Systems (TAMMS).

Additional Information

Licenses & Permits

• A valid US Driver's License and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Kuwait Driver's License are required.

Physical Requirements

• Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions

• Subject to extreme cold. Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.
• Subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. Consideration should be given to the effect of other environmental conditions, such as wind and humidity.
• Subject to noise. Sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
• Subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
