Role Purpose

To deliver outstanding teaching and learning in Humanities (History and Geography) aligned with the English National Curriculum and GCSE requirements. The role exists to ensure exceptional progress for all students through effective planning, assessment, differentiation, and collaborative teamwork, while maintaining high standards of discipline and pastoral care.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and Delivery

• Create a climate for learning that is conducive to outstanding practice.
• Identify clear teaching and learning objectives.
• Set clear targets, building on prior attainment.
• Provide clear structure and planning for lessons and learning activities that maintain pace, challenge, and engagement.
• Make effective use of ICT to enhance learning and progress.
• Take part in subject development by producing, reviewing, and updating curriculum plans and schemes of work.

Differentiation and Inclusion

• Identify SEN (POD), EAL, and G&T students and ensure that their needs are met through differentiation.
• Make effective use of performance data and key indicators to inform planning and deliver differentiated lessons.
• Teach across the ability range with proven success.
• Meet with other professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists, if required.

Assessment and Progress Tracking

• Make effective use of assessment for learning.
• Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use them to improve specific aspects of teaching and learning.
• Mark students' work regularly and set targets for progress, in accordance with the school's Marking Policy.
• Assess and record students' progress systematically and keep records.
• Use performance data to inform planning, student learning, and progress.
• Undertake assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, department, and school procedures.

Behaviour and Discipline

• Maintain discipline in accordance with the school's Behaviour for Learning Policy.
• Encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work, and homework.

Communication and Reporting

• Prepare and present informative reports to parents.
• Attend and support parent and student events.

General Duties

• Undertake any other duties as assigned by the SLT.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in a related subject with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Humanities Teacher in the English Curriculum.

• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team.
