Role Overview

Staff Nurse - Interventional Radiology TP at American Hospital Dubai. The role provides clinical nursing support across a range of interventional radiology and medical imaging procedures.

Role Purpose

Deliver direct patient care and procedural assistance within Medical Imaging and Interventional Radiology, supporting consultants in the execution of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, monitoring patient safety and comfort, and maintaining clinical standards throughout all patient interactions.

Key Responsibilities

Procedure Assistance

• Assist in administering Moderate Sedation as ordered by a consultant during Radiology procedures.
• Aid in conducting and overseeing Nuclear Medicine Cardiac Stress Tests.
• Support in executing Gastrostomy tube change or replacement.
• Assist in insertion of Implanted ports.
• Help with Implanted port blood sampling.
• Assist in flushing and locking Implanted ports.
• Aid in removing Implanted port non-coring needles.
• Support in conducting Lumbar punctures.
• Assist in performing Paracentesis.
• Aid in executing Percutaneous liver biopsy.
• Assist in conducting Percutaneous Nephrostomy Tube Insertion.
• Help with Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) blood sampling.
• Assist in performing Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) dressing changes.
• Support in flushing and locking Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC).
• Assist in administering drugs via Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC).
• Assist in conducting Thoracentesis.
• Support in performing Transjugular liver biopsy.
• Perform renal Creatinine blood test utilizing POCT.

Patient Monitoring & Assessment

• Monitor patients during conscious sedation and document vitals.
• Provide age-specific patient-centered care utilizing the nursing process.
• Perform patient assessment using appropriate, problem-focused, and age-specific assessment techniques.
• Perform continual critical care assessment of patient and family's physical and psychological needs.
• Assess patient and family's physical and psychological needs.
• Recognize subtle cues to anticipate potential problems.

Care Planning & Coordination

• Involve the patient, significant others, and health care providers in the plan of care when appropriate.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care.
• Coordinate and plan critical care/clinical pathway and prioritize care based on individual needs.
• Revise the care plan as necessary.
• Initiate appropriate transfer plan.
• Coordinate and plan care based on age, appropriateness, and developmental needs of patients.

Documentation & Compliance

• Document all relevant data in the medical record according to hospital/departmental standards.
• Perform safe handling and administering of Narcotic/Controlled and Semi-Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policies and procedures.
• Participate in unit-based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities including data collection, CQI teams, incident reporting, customer complaint reporting, and medication error reporting.

Safety & Environment

• Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the unit and patient care.
• Assume responsibility for meeting Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) required mandatory education including fire, safety, and infection control.

Professional Development & Operations

• Maintain clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice.
• Complete yearly critical care nursing competencies (basic).
• Ensure completion of unit competencies including pain management and utilization of Emergency department devices.
• Participate in staff meetings and unit committees/projects.
• Participate in developing and achieving unit goals.
• Maintain mandatory educational requirements.
• Participate in ongoing educational activities.
• Perform clerical duties when needed.
• Perform additional duties when required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (minimum three years full-time course duration) or Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration) and Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
• For UAE nationals, graduates of UAE or non-UAE universities are exempted from experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title; UAE nationals must submit a copy of birth certificate and the mother's family book.
• Non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities must successfully complete six months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles).
• Must hold valid License/Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).
• Must hold a minimum of valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or others according to the scope of practice.
• Minimum two years of recent post-graduate experience in Medical Imaging Nursing.
• Knowledge of and ability to render care and services based on age, appropriateness, and developmental needs of patients.
• Skills in the assessment of patient and family's physical and psychological needs.
• Skills in coordination and planning of care and prioritizing care based on individual needs.
