Role Overview

Staff Nurse - Dermatology Clinic at American Hospital Dubai. The role delivers specialized nursing care within a dermatology clinic setting, supporting a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Role Purpose

Deliver patient-centered dermatology nursing care using evidence-based practice, maintain clinical competency, and support physicians in performing dermatological procedures safely and effectively while ensuring optimal patient outcomes and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Procedures

• Perform wound dressing and changes within the scope of practice.
• Conduct suture removal within the scope of practice.
• Undertake blood extraction and centrifugation for Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) within the scope of practice.
• Perform ultraviolet therapy within the scope of practice.
• Support in electrocautery procedures.
• Execute mole mapping procedures within the scope of practice.
• Perform iontophoresis treatment within the scope of practice.
• Assist in microneedling radiofrequency.
• Support in fractional laser procedures.
• Aid in broadband light treatments.
• Assist in Erbium YAG laser procedures.
• Support in vascular laser procedures.
• Assist in skin excisions, biopsies, and incision and drainage procedures.
• Assist in cryotherapy within the scope of practice.
• Conduct patch tests within the scope of practice.
• Assist in mesotherapy procedures.
• Perform HydraFacial treatment within the scope of practice.

Patient Assessment & Care Planning

• Provide age-specific patient-centered care utilizing the nursing process.
• Perform patient assessment using appropriate, problem-focused, and age-specific assessment techniques.
• Perform continual critical care assessment of patient and family's physical and psychological needs.
• Assess patient and family's physical and psychological needs.
• Involve the patient, significant others, and health care providers in the plan of care when appropriate.
• Coordinate and plan critical care and clinical pathway, and prioritize care based on individual needs.
• Revise the care plan as necessary.
• Initiate appropriate transfer plan.
• Recognize subtle cues to anticipate potential problems.
• Render care and services based on age, appropriateness, and developmental needs of patients.

Collaboration & Coordination

• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care.
• Participate in staff meetings and unit committees and projects.
• Participate in developing and achieving unit goals.

Documentation & Compliance

• Document all relevant data in the medical record according to hospital and departmental standards.
• Perform safe handling and administering of Narcotic, Controlled, and Semi-Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policies and procedures.
• Participate in unit-based Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities including data collection, CQI teams, incident reporting, customer complaint reporting, and medication error reporting.
• Assume responsibility for meeting Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) required mandatory education including fire, safety, infection control, and others.
• Maintain mandatory educational requirements.

Safety & Environment

• Maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the unit and patient care.
• Ensure completion of unit competencies including pain management and utilization of emergency department devices.

Professional Development

• Maintain clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice.
• Complete yearly critical care nursing competencies (basic).
• Participate in ongoing educational activities.

General Operations

• Perform clerical duties when needed.
• Perform additional duties when required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in nursing with a minimum of three (3) years full-time course duration, or
• Degree in nursing with a minimum of two (2) years course duration and Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
• For UAE nationals: graduates of UAE or non-UAE universities are exempted from the experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title. (UAE nationals must submit a copy of their birth certificate and the mother's family book.)
• Non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities are required to successfully complete six (6) months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles).
• Minimum of two (2) years of recent post-graduate experience in Dermatology Nursing.
• Valid License or Registration to practice in home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable).

Skills & Competencies

• Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Knowledge of and ability to render care and services based on age, appropriateness, and developmental needs of patients.
• Skills in assessment of patient and family's physical and psychological needs.
• Skills in coordination and planning of care and prioritizing care based on individual needs.
