SR DREDGE MASTER

Role Overview

Senior Dredge Master at NMDC Group. This is a shipboard position with responsibility for overall control of the cutter suction dredge (CSD), its crew, operations, maintenance, and safety.

Role Purpose

The Senior Dredge Master exercises ultimate authority over the CSD's maintenance, operation, crew welfare, discipline, and training to establish and sustain a productive, efficient, and safe working environment. The role ensures optimal vessel utilization, daily production targets, technical reliability, and compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Production

• Organize and supervise execution of dredging cutter suction works according to planning, budgeting, and applied methods while observing quality, safety, and environmental standards.
• Generate production reporting on each operation.
• Keep track of cubic meters pumped through the floating pipeline.
• Ensure optimal utilization and daily production in accordance with the operational capabilities of the CSD.
• Provide daily production reporting to and consultation with the Project Manager and Project Team on operational activities and progress of assigned works.
• Advise the dredging superintendent on planning of work process, cutting patterns, and shore connections.
• Propose methods to increase production in coordination with crew on board.
• Execute work in accordance with local environmental prescriptions and regulations.

Maintenance & Asset Management

• Keep track of wear and tear (W&T) of all soil conveying parts including deck lines, impellers, inner and outer pump houses, sheaves, and suction mouth by means of a register based on characteristics of dredge material and pumped volume.
• Plan and schedule maintenance of the CSD and auxiliary vessels in alignment with the project team.
• Verify that maintenance is completed on time for auxiliary equipment and CSD.
• Perform regular checks to ensure all equipment is safe for operations.
• Implement the maintenance plan of CSD and auxiliary vessels in accordance with Technical Department objectives.
• Report defects to vessels or their auxiliary equipment to the Technical Department, Project Manager, and Head office.
• Propose methods to the Technical Department to increase technical reliability.

Crew Management & Training

• Exercise overall control of crew welfare, discipline, and training.
• Teach and guide crew on board in dredging techniques and planning of deck and engine room-related activities.
• Supervise and guide activities related to the dredger.
• Teach, advise, and guide the crew on a daily basis to increase their level of understanding of dredging activities on board.
• Assess the crew and provide honest and detailed evaluations to Crewing, Operations, and Technical departments.
• Achieve higher quality, safety, technical reliability, production, and operational hours through crew guidance.

Safety, Health & Environment

• Identify hazards.
• Obtain information from HSE Department.
• Make recommendations to HSE Department.
• Investigate incidents.
• Report all accidents, incidents, and near misses to the Project Manager, HSE Manager, and designated person.
• Propose methods to HSE Department to increase safety on board.
• Ensure works assigned are executed safely and without risks to health, quality, and environment according to customer and company requirements.
• Execute ISM-management on board and arrange that all required drills and inspections are performed at required intervals.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Ensure all tasks and controls related to quality as specified in the relevant project quality plan.
• Provide input regarding possible upgrades, small and major modifications to improve reliability and production of the CSD.
• Provide lessons learned register and implementation of action points.
• Inform opportunities to improve to Operations Department and Technical Department.

Authority & Decision-Making

• Schedule personnel and auxiliary vessels on projects to perform works as planned.
• Take all necessary decisions to carry out work safely, with care for the environment, and with quality according to requirements.
• Exercise authority in accordance with international and national laws in force in the work area.
• Hold ultimate responsibility for safety and daily operation of CSD and crew as prescribed by Company procedures and guidelines.
• Exercise full power in coordination with Dredging Superintendent/Technical Superintendent/Workboat Manager/Project Manager to take whatever action deemed best to safeguard the interest of vessel and crew.
• Defend Company policy and procedures.
• Have final word regarding all activities on board of CSD including operations, planning, maintenance, deck department, and engine department.

General Responsibilities

• Provide a generalist view of assigned work; at times be asked to perform work above and beyond the scope of this role due to operational or technical requirements.
• In close cooperation with Dredging Superintendent and Technical Superintendent, complete everything required to perform tasks properly.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or Degree or equivalent professional qualification and experience.
• STCW code; Basic and Manila amendments.
• Hold valid statutory license issued by flag authority for specific on board job.
• Be familiar with SMS (Safety Management System).
• Risk Assessment / PTW.

• This is a shipboard position with full responsibility for the vessel, crew, and all on-board operations and safety as the highest authority on board.
