Role Purpose

The Sr. Dimensional Quality Technician ensures the dimensional accuracy and quality of BIW (Body in White) components and assemblies by performing precise measurements, analysis, and data-driven adjustments, while supporting production stability and continuous quality improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection & Measurement

• Conduct dimensional inspections of BIW components such as stamped parts and minor sub-assemblies and assemblies using various measurement tools and equipment (CMM, Laser Trackers, Inline Measurement Systems, Calipers, Micrometers and others).
• Compare actual data to CAD models or drawings and highlight deviations.
• Use GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles to interpret drawings and specifications.

Data & Documentation

• Document inspection results and generate detailed summaries.
• Ensure traceability of measurement results for audits or reviews.

Quality & Process Improvement

• Define and implement corrective actions to reduce defects and improve process capability.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and manufacturing processes.
• Create or modify CMM programs (commonly using software like PC-DMIS, Calypso, or PolyWorks) to automate part inspections.

Collaboration & Standards

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and quality, to resolve dimensional issues.
• Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards in all inspection activities.

Qualifications & Experience

• Technical associate degree (automotive manufacturing preferred).
• Minimum of 4–6 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in dimensional inspection or quality control, preferably in the automotive industry.
• Basic knowledge of using measurement tools and equipment.
• Understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• Familiarity with BIW processes and components.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of BIW tooling, fixtures, automation, joining and SPC processes.
• Understanding of GD&T, DFM/DFA, quality tools (G8D, 5why analysis), and automotive quality standards.
• Familiarity with CAD tools, MES systems, and plant-floor digital manufacturing platforms.
• Basic knowledge of statistical analysis and quality control methodologies.
• Basic Microsoft Office knowledge (PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work at the pace required while maintaining a high level of craftsmanship.
• Able to follow instructions in English, both written and verbal.

Additional Information

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time during the repair of a vehicle.
• Must be able to walk, sit, bend, push/pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach or crawl frequently.
• Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work Schedule & Availability

• Available to work overtime, off-shifts or weekends, as needed.
