Role Overview

Specialist Pediatrics role at SEHA, providing clinical and supervisory duties in pediatric medicine within a hospital division.

Role Purpose

To diagnose and treat pediatric patients under Consultant Physician supervision according to established best practice standards, while supervising junior medical staff, participating in quality improvement, and contributing to clinical education and research.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice for pediatric specialty under Consultant Physician supervision.
• Lead ward rounds and reassess inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis in line with established best practice.
• Accept clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals.
• Ensure preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent.
• Regularly review results of all investigations and modify treatment as required.
• Accurately document all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and the patient's family and friends with patient consent in a timely manner.

Supervision & Team Leadership

• Assist the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff and jointly assume responsibility for the care they provide.
• Maintain a good working relationship with members of staff and promote collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.
• Promote and assist in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff.

Policy Compliance & Resource Management

• Support and adhere to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.
• Comply with all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow-up practices.
• Practice appropriate utilization of the organization's resources.
• Assist with Consultant staff in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times.

Stakeholder & Interdisciplinary Collaboration

• Liaise with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
• Actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients.

Governance & Reporting

• Support and participate in the organization's performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
• Support the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.
• Attend Divisional meetings as invited.
• Assume other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant Staff.

On-Call & Availability

• Participate in and support the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out-of-hours on-call coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required.

Quality Improvement

• Support quality improvement initiatives within the Division.
• Support a culture of regular audit and encourage the use of audit results for improving clinical practice.

Education & Professional Development

• Promote and participate in clinical research and publication.
• Keep abreast of current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
• Perform other clinical responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

Tier 1

• No additional experience required post board certification.

Tier 2

• Not less than 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in internationally accredited institute.

Tier 3

• Not less than 3 years clinical experience as Specialist post qualification in internationally accredited institute.

UAE Nationals

• No additional experience required post board certification.
• Those enrolled in HAAD accredited residency programs require no experience post board certification.
