Role Overview

Specialist - Orthopaedics Surgery at NMC Healthcare. The role delivers comprehensive orthopaedic care across inpatient and outpatient settings, including diagnosis, operative procedures, and post-operative management.

Role Purpose

Deliver evidence-based orthopaedic care to assigned patients through pre- and post-operative care, surgical procedures within competence, preventive services, and consultation to other physicians and specialists, while maintaining clinical standards and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Treatment

• Provide comprehensive and diligent orthopaedic care to all assigned patients, including pre- and post-operative care and orthopaedic procedures within incumbent's competence.
• Perform professional duties at the outpatient department to render outpatient orthopaedic care.
• Assume after-hours responsibility for the care of admitted orthopaedic cases and make daily rounds for hospitalized patients.
• Maintain complete and accurate records of all assigned cases.

Consultation & Collaboration

• Provide consultation services to physicians, surgeons and other specialists on inpatient or outpatient cases as required.
• Refer to specialists or consult with them on cases beyond incumbent's skill or experience.
• Consult with anesthetist on the choice of anesthesia to be used.

Governance & Compliance

• Adhere to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the medical department.
• Assure that work performed is in keeping with established standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.

Practice Development & Resource Management

• Keep informed as to current developments in the field of orthopaedics.
• Determine which surgical and related services procedures are proper to undertake and when new techniques will be utilized.
• Determine requirements and initiate action to assure availability of special equipment and supplies.
• Utilize and monitor supporting services (Nursing, Operations Support, Pathology, Radiology) in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.

Qualifications & Experience

• Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency.
• Certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Medicine or Member of the Royal College of Orthopaedicians (or equivalent).
• At least three years of practice limited to orthopaedics since certification.
• Two or more years as a licensed specialist.
• Current licensure in country of origin and DOH license to practice as an Orthopaedic Specialist in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
• Highly skilled in the particular field of practice with mature clinical judgment.
• Ability to provide professional leadership.
• Thorough knowledge of Surgical Department policies and procedures.
• Obligation to maintain confidentiality of work.
• Personality which inspires confidence and trust in patients.
• Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients and families.
