Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology - PL

Role Overview

Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology - PL with NMC Healthcare. This is a specialist-level clinical position.

Role Purpose

Deliver professional, ethical, and high-quality clinical care to women across prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods. Manage clinical risks, ensure compliance with governance standards, maintain accurate medical records, and support continuous professional development while upholding integrity in all clinical services.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care and Clinical Assessment

• Care for women during prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods.
• Interview new patients to assess their symptoms, needs, and problems; record and utilize their medical history for diagnosis.
• Monitor patient's condition and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.
• Maintain record of the patient including present, past, and family history prior to diagnosing or treating the case.
• Conduct follow-ups with patients to monitor and track their condition.
• Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments as necessary.

Diagnostics and Testing

• Order and analyse necessary tests, screenings, biopsies, and scans to effectively diagnose a problem.
• Perform well-women exams that include pap smears, pelvic, and breast exams.
• Conduct Papanicolaou screening to detect malignant and premalignant processes in the ectocervix to prevent cervical cancer.

Obstetric Care and Delivery

• Provide prenatal care for women and their babies before birth.
• Deliver babies and perform other birth-related duties as needed, such as inducing labor and performing emergency surgery when needed.
• Perform Cesarean sections or other surgical procedures as needed to preserve patients' health and deliver babies safely.
• Monitor the mother and the baby throughout childbirth and oversee the administration of medications.

Gynecological Treatment and Surgery

• Treat diseases and injuries of a woman's reproductive organ.
• Perform surgeries in case of chronic and serious reproductive disorders.
• Suggest alternative treatments in case there is no health progress.

Prescribing and Medication Management

• Prescribe postnatal and prenatal care.
• Prescribe the right drugs, compresses, and antibiotics that should be taken by the patient.
• Prescribe treatment and determine the quantity and usage in legible writing including the name, signature, and date on the prescription.
• Alert the patient or his or her family to the importance of adhering to treatment instructions and to any significant and expected side effects of the medical or surgical treatment.
• Provide dietary tips and conduct regular examinations for pregnant women.
• Provide health care tips for the babies.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

• Direct, advise, and supervise medical staff including nurses, physician assistants, and medical technicians on proper procedures and protocol.
• Make plans and procedures for every operation; ensure all patients' needs are properly planned.
• Cooperate with other physicians involved in the patient's treatment and provide information on patient's medical condition and the course of treatment whenever requested.
• Consult with a specialist colleague if the case requires.
• Inform the patient's family of the nature and degree of seriousness of his or her illness.

Complications Management

• Monitor complications of medical or surgical treatment and initiate remedial action where possible.

Occupational Safety and Health Management

• Comply with reasonable occupational safety and health instructions, policies, and safe working procedures.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone's health and safety.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
• Report occupational safety and health hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues.
• Reduce, reuse, and recycle waste as much as possible.
• Attend all occupational safety and health trainings, awareness programs, and mock drills.
• Participate in occupational safety and health management systems audits and inspections, ensuring standards are maintained.

Infection Prevention and Control

• Read and implement the NMC Prevention and Control of Infection Policy and Strategy in an effort to maintain the highest possible standards of cleanliness at all times, thus reducing the risk of infection in patients, staff, and visitors.
• Maintain the strictest hand hygiene, including the five moments of hand hygiene.
• Maintain bare below the elbows standards and environmental care at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

• At least 3–5 years' post-qualification experience at Specialist level, independent of country.
• At least 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
• Basic medical degree and completion of a specialty qualification or education programme (fellowship or diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Active and valid life support certification (BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, or NRP).
• Eligibility for relevant healthcare authority registration such as Membership from Royal College, Arab Board Certification, MS, DM, MPhil, or equivalent recognised by relevant healthcare authority in UAE.
