Role Overview

Specialist - Maternal and Fetal Medicine at NMC Healthcare. The role delivers obstetrician and gynecologic health care on both an inpatient and outpatient basis for designated patients.

Role Purpose

Deliver comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care across surgical, emergency, delivery room, and outpatient settings, with particular expertise in maternal and fetal medicine. Ensure quality assurance, patient safety, and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care Delivery

• Perform professional duties as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist.
• Provide surgical care in the operating room and outpatient department for gynecologic and obstetric conditions for both emergency and planned procedures.
• Perform both spontaneous and operative deliveries in the delivery room.
• Provide outpatient care in clinics when assigned by the head of department.
• Carry out formal and informal consultations with physicians from other departments.
• Respond promptly to emergency service calls for consultation.

Delivery Room and Labor Management

• Cover the delivery room, including admitting patients, reviewing their history, and planning a course of action.
• Interact with midwives to coordinate care.

Diagnostic and Monitoring

• Perform and interpret ultrasound examinations in both hospital and outpatient settings.
• Interpret fetal heart rate monitoring and take appropriate action.

Stakeholder Communication

• Interact with patients' families to keep them informed of the patient's condition, changes in condition, and plans.

Governance and Compliance

• Strictly observe the organization's medical regulations and policies, especially those related to infection control, patient safety, patient assessment, and patient care.
• Comply with all occupational safety and health (OSH) and infection control policies, standards, and procedures.
• Cooperate with hospital management to meet compliance requirements.
• Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and instructions and specific responsibilities.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Notify OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
• Comply with waste management procedures and policies.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.

Quality and Professional Development

• Monitor clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
• Attend applicable OSH and infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs.
• Attend committee meetings when assigned by the head of department.

Scheduling and Availability

• Work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays according to a schedule compiled by the head of department.
• Carry out other duties when requested by the head of department.

Qualifications & Experience

• Three years residency in OBG culminating in a Post-Graduate Tier 1 or Tier 2 Qualification as Specialist/Consultant level approved and recognized by the DOH.
• Five or more years' exclusive practice in OBG since certification.
