Specialist Internal Medicine (UAE National)

Role Overview

Specialist Internal Medicine position with SEHA in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for UAE nationals.

Role Purpose

To lead and deliver high-quality, evidence-based internal medicine care to patients, while supervising junior medical staff and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and continuous clinical outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Excellence

• Lead and supervise delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care with effective patient diagnosis, management, and treatment within specialty.

Patient Care

• Conduct patient examinations and take detailed medical histories.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Prescribe medications and therapies.
• Develop comprehensive treatment plans.
• Lead ward rounds and manage both inpatient and outpatient cases.

Supervision and Training

• Oversee clinical activities of junior medical staff including specialists, GPs, and residents.
• Actively participate in instruction, guidance, and supervision of junior staff.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

• Liaise with other medical specialties and support services.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to ensure holistic patient care.

On-Call Coverage

• Participate in out-of-hours on-call coverage on a rotational basis.
• Ensure provision of coverage including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Documentation and Compliance

• Accurately and clearly document all relevant clinical information in a timely fashion.
• Comply with all hospital, departmental, and Department of Health policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain compliance with infection control and patient safety standards.

Quality Improvement

• Participate in clinical audits and performance management systems including peer review.
• Participate in proactive risk management to foster continuous improvement in patient outcomes.

Communication

• Communicate clinical information to patients and families in a timely and compassionate manner.
• Ensure informed consent is obtained for procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

• MBBS or equivalent degree from a recognized medical school.
• Successful completion of a structured specialty training program such as North American or European Board Certification, Fellowship of a Royal College, or equivalent qualification from a Department of Health-approved Tier 1 or Tier 2 country.
• Postgraduate qualification such as MD, MS, or DNB, generally required.
• Minimum 3–7 years of post-specialty clinical experience depending on qualification and tier level, in a recognized multidisciplinary setting.
• Experience gaps of more than two years require specific Department of Health approval or completion of a return-to-practice program.
• Eligibility for or valid Department of Health Abu Dhabi license to practice in Abu Dhabi; mandatory legal requirement.
• Primary Source Verification of all educational and professional documents through the Data Flow Group.
• Successful completion of the Department of Health license exam unless exempted based on Tier 1 qualifications and experience.
• Valid Good Standing Certificate from current or previous licensing authority.
