Role Overview

Social Services Specialist III - Position 2405 at King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz University Hospital. This role provides social work services for patients and their families in the resolution of problems arising from their medical conditions and circumstances.

Role Purpose

To provide social work services for patients and their families in the resolution of problems arising from their medical conditions and circumstances.

Key Responsibilities

Ward and Interdisciplinary Collaboration

• Visit the Wards/Units regularly and establish professional relationships with the medical and nursing staff.
• Ensure that treating physicians and nurses are fully aware of the social circumstances of the patient.
• Participate in and support quality improvement and patient safety activities as an individual or as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Patient and Family Assessment

• Interview patients, family members and friends to develop background knowledge concerning the patients' social life.
• Assess social needs based on gathered information.
• Assess the psychosocial needs of patients and their families in the clinic, considering factors like socioeconomic status, mental health, family dynamics, and support systems.

Care Planning and Implementation

• Prepare and implement an appropriate management plan to alleviate adverse effects upon patients.
• Ensure maximum utilisation of all available resources to achieve care goals.
• Educate the patient and family in the understanding of and adherence to the medical and social management plans.

Support and Referral Services

• Assist in solving patients' problems which hinder their treatment, such as providing financial, social and psychological support.
• Refer patients to social welfare agencies after reviewing their cases.
• Refer the patient to the Ministry of Social Development to obtain disability benefits for individuals with special needs, including car parking cards, airfare discount cards, and financial aid and rehabilitation equipment.

Counseling and Emotional Support

• Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families coping with illness, trauma, or loss.

Emergency Response

• Provide home on-call for emergency cases, including abuse, neglect, suicidal attempts, and social and family issues.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

• Train and share knowledge with other staff and students.

Reporting and Documentation

• Prepare necessary reports and statistics supported by feedback and remarks as necessary.
• Submit reports to the Social Work Supervisor for necessary actions.

Patient-Centered Care

• Respect patients and their families to promote a Patient-Centered Care culture.

Additional Duties

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor degree in Social Science or Arts Degree in Social Work with no experience required.
• SCHS Registration/License.
