Shift Charge Engineer

Role Overview

Shift Charge Engineer at ACWA Power, located in Al Madinnah Al Manwarah, Sidra. Reports to the Operation Manager.

Role Purpose

To oversee and manage operational activities during the shift, monitor operational performance, and provide technical support to ensure efficiency, productivity, and safety of the plant whilst achieving shift production targets.

Key Responsibilities

People Management

• Supervise team member activities and work during the shift to ensure targets and objectives are achieved and the business plan is delivered in line with required policies, processes, procedures, and systems.

Operations Management

• Monitor plant performance and provide operations engineering support for all process and operational related matters and activities during the shift to ensure optimal plant operations in a timely manner.
• Oversee day-to-day activities of shift staff and manage all plant operating activities ensuring they are executed in a safe and efficient manner so that the operational area meets required targets.
• Review all current work instructions, SOPs, processes, and procedures and recommend necessary changes to the Operations Manager, ensuring process efficiency and optimization of resources.
• Monitor operational performance and make quick decisions to correct abnormalities or disturbances, taking corrective actions during a state of emergency.
• Coordinate with all other departments for activities related to plant operations during the shift and ensure their timely execution as per the plan.

Maintenance Support

• Collaborate with the Maintenance team during the shift and ensure that any minor or major activities like commissioning and start-up activities are completed in a safe manner, as per the established plan.
• Ensure strict adherence to all relevant HSSE and permit to work system, instructions, controls, and procedures so that the safety of employees and environmental compliance can be guaranteed.

Relationship Management

• Develop and maintain effective business relationships with all relevant internal departments and external contractors while promptly attending to all critical technical issues in order to ensure the services required by the organization are delivered in the most effective manner.
• Represent the plant in all technical meetings to handle any escalated technical matters to ensure timely resolution of issues.

SAP Administration

• Administer SAP processes within the operations section and ensure adherence to SAP guidelines in all related aspects of annual and monthly planning, scheduling, and data management such as breakdowns review, corrective maintenance notification, creating work orders, and planning in order to ensure data and system integrity in line with NOMAC's defined standards.
• Ensure all system documents are up to date in order to comply with NOMAC's quality standards.

Health, Safety, Security & Environment

• Monitor adherence to all relevant health, safety, security, and environmental procedures, instructions, and controls so that the safety of employees and environmental compliance can be guaranteed.
• Ensure that all accidents, incidents, or near misses occurring during the shift are properly reported as per established procedures.
• Manage an emergency during the shift as per the company emergency response plan until relieved by a higher authority, in order to ensure minimum impact of the hazard.

• Adhere to all relevant organizational and departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out to the required standard and in a consistent manner.

Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to the identification and implementation of change initiatives, programs, and projects in line with the organization's standards.

Related Assignments

• Perform any other duties which the line manager may require to be carried out.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
• 8 years' experience in water desalination and power generation plants with 2 years of experience in a supervisory role.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge of relevant plant equipment.
• SAP working knowledge (preferred).
• New IMS system awareness or working knowledge (preferred).
• Project Management.
• Mentoring, coaching, and people management skills.
• Knowledge of operations in water desalination and power generation plants and of NOMAC operations.
• Strong planning, organizing, and integration skills.
• Teamwork and effective collaboration skills.
