Senior Technician, Electrical Maintenance (ST/DGD)

Role Overview

Senior Technician, Electrical Maintenance (ST/DGD) at ADNOC, based at the Dalma Gas Development plant and associated offshore wellhead towers.

Role Purpose

Supervise and carry out electrical maintenance, scheduled preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and breakdown maintenance of electrical systems at the Dalma Gas Development plant and offshore wellhead towers. Ensure safe, reliable and continuous operation of the power generation and distribution network and all connected equipment. Support project completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities, and handover of new electrical systems into steady-state operation and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Safety & Permits

• Issue and control isolation certificates and electrical work permits in accordance with Company safety regulations and general rules.
• Ensure safe operation and maintenance of electrical apparatus on power networks covering HV, MV and LV systems onshore and offshore.
• Perform safe isolation, earthing, proving dead and de-isolation of HV/MV switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, distribution boards and UPS/DC systems.
• Apply interlocking and inter-tripping arrangements to switchgear and protection systems.

Maintenance & Repairs

• Supervise and carry out repairs on various types of electrical equipment, including replacing defective parts and obtaining necessary spare parts and tools.
• Test equipment to ensure functionality after repair.
• Supervise planned and breakdown electrical maintenance work by electrical technicians and contractor personnel.
• Ensure work is carried out according to Company specifications and standards and regulations.
• Carry out preventive and routine maintenance on electrical equipment as instructed by the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, in line with SAP PM plans, OEM manuals and Company maintenance strategy.

Testing, Inspection & Diagnostics

• Carry out electrical testing, inspection and diagnostics including insulation resistance, contact resistance, protection relay verification, earthing and continuity checks.
• Perform thermography and hazardous area (Ex) inspection.

Commissioning & Energization

• Support electrical pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization and start-up activities for new and modified systems.
• Conduct loop checking and functional testing.
• Witness FAT/SAT activities.
• Close punch lists and red-line mark-up of drawings.
• Support system handover from Contractor to Operations.

Power Management

• Support restoration of power supply and emergency/black start arrangements during partial or total loss of power.
• Coordinate with Operations and Power Management System philosophy.
• Monitor Electrical Control and Monitoring System (ECMS), Power Management System (PMS), load shedding and auto-synchronization schemes.

Equipment & Systems Coverage

• Maintain power generation and main distribution systems including gas turbine generators, emergency diesel generators, step-up unit transformers and 33 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS).
• Maintain plant distribution network including 11 kV, 6.6 kV and 415 V switchgear, motor control centers, distribution boards, LV bus ducts, power and distribution transformers, neutral earthing resistors and protection relays.
• Maintain secure and emergency supplies including UPS systems, battery banks and chargers, AC/DC distribution boards, emergency lighting and essential services supplies.
• Maintain rotating equipment supplies including HV, MV and LV motors, variable frequency and variable speed drives and their control and protection.
• Maintain control and monitoring systems including ECMS, PMS, load shedding and auto-synchronization schemes and field interfaces.
• Maintain offshore wellhead towers and platforms including 6.6 kV ring main units (RMU), distribution transformers, LV switchgear, distribution boards, DC/UPS systems, TUTU and splitter box panels, junction boxes, wellhead control panel supplies, subsea composite cable terminations and platform lighting and small power.
• Maintain supporting electrical systems including cathodic protection, electrical heat tracing, earthing and lightning protection, and hazardous area (Ex) electrical installations.

Materials & Records Management

• Identify and initiate necessary materials requisitions for replenishment of stock.
• Ensure adequate supplies of stores and spare parts required for maintenance and repair work in liaison with Supervisor.
• Maintain up-to-date records of all maintenance work completed including work orders and maintenance logs.
• Document fault descriptions, work carried out, materials used, time and manpower.
• Record test results on various units for further reference.

Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to updating and improving Maintenance Checklists, Procedures and Guidelines.
• Build-up and verify equipment registers and asset master data for newly commissioned electrical systems.
• Engage in new projects issues and upgraded equipment installation and performance follow-up.
• Approach challenges proactively with logical thinking.
• Identify areas and opportunities for continuous improvement in operating procedures, modification of functional processes, machinery and equipment.

Training & Development

• Provide on-the-job training to meet Competency Based Training programs for UAE Nationalization.

Tool & Equipment Management

• Maintain all tools, safety gear and equipment provided by company safely and in working condition.
• Arrange for repair or replacement of tools and safety gear not in good working condition.

Health, Safety & Environment

• Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures and controls and applicable legislation.
• Comply with sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC Code of Practices.
• Participate in Emergency Response duties as a team member.

Housekeeping & Standards

• Maintain work environment clean and tidy before, during and after executing jobs in line with established standards of Hygiene and Housekeeping.
• Carry out all maintenance jobs in line with assigned time standards.
• Implement and comply with all relevant functional policies, processes, systems, standards and procedures to accomplish operational objectives.

Reporting & Communication

• Collect technical data from the field as required.
• Provide inputs to prepare Section progress reports for Company Management.
• Provide input for preparation of Method statements.
• Initiate Near Miss reports.
• Maintain regular contact with team members, supervisors, line managers and HSE staff.
• Maintain regular contact with work-related partners from other teams.
• Maintain regular contact with vendors, OEMs and contractors for specialist maintenance, commissioning support and technical clarifications.
• Inform Maintenance Supervisor if additional resources are required to complete jobs within assigned time frames.

Qualifications & Experience

• Technical Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 6 years of relevant experience maintaining electrical equipment within a large industrial plant, preferably in the Oil and Gas industry.
• Minimum of 3 years on HV/MV systems.
• Minimum of 2 years in an offshore environment.
• LV/HV Electrical Authorization Certification.
• Hazardous Area (Ex) competency – CompEx or equivalent preferred.
• Proficient in English.
