Senior Production Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Production Engineer at McDermott. This role leads production discipline excellence across fabrication and petrochemical operations, mentoring junior engineers and solving complex technical challenges to optimize product delivery and operational performance.

Role Purpose

The Senior Production Engineer improves production discipline within McDermott by applying best practices and expertise to solve complex problems, mentor colleagues, and ensure all activities align with guidelines and policies. The role impacts customer, operational, project, and service outcomes across the production team and related functions.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Oversight

• Supervise discipline production engineers and identify production resource needs for projects, communicating regularly to Division Production.
• Lead the Discipline Production Engineering team, Drafting Squad Leaders, Material Controllers, and related staff to meet project fabrication requirements.
• Manage inter- and intra-functional interfaces at the discipline level for fabrication portions of the project with minimal guidance.
• Establish productive working relationships with Project Superintendents and Supervisions to ensure meeting fabrication targets.
• Understand the overall project scope of work to lead and guide the discipline production engineering team to meet fabrication deliverables in line with fabrication sequence and schedule.

Contract & Scope Management

• Understand the full contractual scope of work, contract type, and milestone schedule, managing progress and reporting on the project.
• Manage any scope of work changes and ensure AFC estimate is up to date, with revision and change orders initiated as necessary.
• Develop a project fabrication execution plan that satisfies contract requirements most productively.
• Develop a work pack index and set priorities and deliverable dates for discipline teams.
• Authorize technical queries and correspondence to be issued to the client.

Production Planning & Scheduling

• Review constructability and ensure the work execution plan is based on the most productive option.
• Chair the weekly project production meeting, managing the project's weekly fabrication progress and productivity to ensure alignment with budget.
• Responsible for fabrication 4WLA, including prioritization of materials and drawings and chairing the production 4WLA to forecast fabrication and engineering requirements to meet project contract schedule.
• Direct discipline groups with all material ordering priorities and schedule dates to suit the fabrication sequence.
• Develop fabrication sequence, conducting constructability reviews to support project operations.
• Attend expediting meetings to communicate material delivery priorities, review and communicate Marine deliverables requirements to meet fabrication plan and sequence.

Change & Revision Management

• Responsible for initiating and approving all revision orders and change orders, ensuring incorporation into the global lessons learned database.

Problem-Solving & Quality

• Solve technical problems and initiate site queries to ensure work disruption is minimized and productivity is optimized.
• Lead project constructability program effort for fabrication.
• Lead project constructability reviews on a discipline level, including resolution of construction problems with intra- and inter-function interfaces.

Reporting & Communication

• Chair the weekly project production meeting, managing fabrication progress and productivity within budget.
• Appraise fabrication management of any project issues that affect forecasted progress, productivity, and schedule commitments.
• Direct material expediting reports and advise procurement personnel of any concerns and mitigation plans as necessary.
• Manage discipline level project fabrication progress within schedule and productivity within targeted budget in coordination with project Operations Engineer.
• Support project Operation Engineer to manage inter- and intra-functional interfaces and project reporting requirements, including AFC estimate review, subcontractor coordination, project status reporting, developing fabrication sequence, and conducting constructability reviews.

Stakeholder & Functional Coordination

• Interface with other key project personnel such as project cost engineer, marine operations engineer, and quality manager.
• Interface for discipline-level requirements with key project personnel from various functions including Engineering, SCM, Quality, Cost Control, Marine Operations, and hook-up to meet priorities and schedule dates for project fabrication requirements.
• Support project Operation Engineer to manage inter- and intra-functional interfaces and project reporting requirements.

Team Development & Resource Management

• Responsible for optimal utilization and development of the discipline team assigned on the project.
• Mentor colleagues with less experience, sharing conceptual and practical expertise related to the production discipline.

Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure necessary documentation and compliance with procedural requirements throughout the project phases.

Bid Support

• Support the Fabrication Bid coordination efforts on assigned Bid projects, supporting the Fab Bid Coordinator.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
• 5+ years offshore and petrochemical industry experience.
• Expertise in production engineering and optimization techniques.
• Proven track record in leading multidisciplinary teams and managing large-scale projects.
• Technical capability to strategize and deliver discipline-level fabrication efforts for complex EPIC projects.

• Proficiency in relevant software and tools related to production engineering.
