Senior HVAC + MEP Designer

Role Overview

Senior HVAC + MEP Designer at KBR, based in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Designer will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and preparing engineering drawings for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems in building projects, with a focus on HVAC systems for infrastructure projects, process buildings, facility buildings, and control rooms.

Role Purpose

Design, coordinate, and execute MEP and HVAC systems for infrastructure and building projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards while integrating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems into overall building designs through detailed engineering drawings and models.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Drafting

• Design HVAC systems, ventilation, air conditioning, and ductwork layouts.
• Draft equipment layouts for Air Handling Units, Fan Coil units, Blowers, Chillers, and related components.
• Develop layout and detailed drawings for air side systems including ducting and accessories in 2D when required.
• Design and draft supports, accessories, Grilles, dampers, Louvers, and other components.
• Perform load calculations, duct sizing, and equipment selection to ensure optimal system performance.

Engineering Drawings & Documentation

• Prepare and validate HVAC air flow diagrams and HVAC layouts.
• Prepare Air Flow Diagrams and PIDs in AutoCAD or MicroStation independently.
• Prepare schematics and issue-for-construction drawings.
• Extract General Arrangement (G.A.) drawings in PDMS.
• Generate HVAC Material Take-Off (MTO) and Bill of Quantities (BOQ).

Equipment Modeling

• Model equipment based on vendor data.
• Perform E3D modeling including routing of HVAC ducting with accessories such as Grilles, dampers, and Louvers based on Air Flow Diagrams and PIDs, specifically for offshore projects.
• Support selection and modeling as per support standards.

Coordination & Integration

• Coordinate with Architectural, Structural, Process, and Utility disciplines and contractors to integrate MEP systems into overall building designs.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, and project teams for successful project execution.

Qualifications & Experience

• 12 to 15 years of experience in HVAC and MEP design.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in Oil & Gas industry.
• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from a recognized institution.
• Relevant experience in Middle East.
• Preferred exposure to infrastructure, hydrocarbon, petroleum refinery industries, and Greenfield/Brownfield work.
• Preferred exposure to Concept, FEED, and detailed engineering of medium to large-scale projects in Middle East.
• Preferred onshore and offshore experience, though not mandatory.

Skills & Competencies

Design Software

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Proficiency in Revit MEP.
• Proficiency in Navisworks.
• Proficiency in BIM 360 / ACC.
• Proficiency in MicroStation.
• Working knowledge of S3D, considered an added advantage.

Technical Competencies

• Basic understanding of HVAC systems.
• Hands-on experience in E3D modeling including routing of HVAC ducting and accessories for offshore projects.
• Ability to generate HVAC Material Take-Off.
• Basic knowledge of ASHRAE, NFPA, NBC, IS Codes, IEC, and local regulations, considered good to have but not mandatory.

Core Competencies

• Ability to communicate in English.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
