Role Overview
Senior Field Engineer at McDermott. The role is based offshore and applies engineering practices and knowledge to improve the field engineering discipline.
Role Purpose
Act as a lead engineer offshore, sharing conceptual and practical expertise related to the field engineering discipline. Provide solutions and mitigation plans to resolve complex problems, apply discipline-specific knowledge to improve processes and services, and play a pivotal role with customers, clients, project or service activities while maintaining specifications, standards, and McDermott guidelines and policies.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Review and Documentation
- Review all technical project documents upon contract award and identify differences or discrepancies between pre-contract and post-contract documents.
- Identify deficiencies in tender method statements.
- Prepare technical clarifications and qualifications about scope of work, drawings, and specifications and submit them to the Proposal Coordinator.
- Review engineering-related information to ensure comprehensive and accurate data is included in bidding proposals.
- Ensure the accuracy of procurement, fabrication, and installation documentation, confirming compliance with contract requirements.
- Review the proposal document and identify work to be subcontracted if any.
- Review subcontract qualifications to incorporate into principal qualifications for the company.
Bid and Proposal Management
- Attend bid interviews with local management and participate in global management reviews.
- Ensure all bid inputs have been reviewed and approved by the Division Manager and General Superintendent before submittal.
- Ensure the Diving Manager reviews and approves all diving estimates.
- Prepare Technical Bid Evaluation to finalize the installation vessels required for job execution.
- Evaluate subcontract qualifications and make recommendations to the Proposals Coordinator for lump sum and miscellaneous costs.
- Prepare bid summary book for all offshore input for major proposals.
- Coordinate with other functions in the company in the preparation of the tender.
Planning and Scheduling
- Develop a plan and allocate resources for the project to ensure engineering deliverables are completed according to the agreed-upon schedule.
- Determine the sequence of work to be performed.
- Determine the equipment to perform the work based on availability, tender requirements, and management bid philosophy.
- Determine the crew make-up required for each phase of the project and update and circulate crew make-ups as required.
- Determine the duration of work, using historical records for similar jobs where applicable.
- Prepare a bar chart schedule for marine work including vessel modifications and other preparatory work.
- Provide tender resource and scheduling information to the Administration and Planning group for financial forecasting purposes.
- Monitor the progress of the project section to prevent major issues or delays from occurring during the project.
Documentation and Procedures
- Take the lead in creating installation documentation, procurement, and fabrication materials such as scopes of work, procedures, drawings, and sketches.
- Prepare written procedures on safe work methods which meet project requirements for inclusion in the technical bid submission.
- Prepare Dive Task Plan for diving related jobs.
- Coordinate with Construction Support Engineering to prepare technical drawings for bid submittals.
Subcontracting and Supplier Management
- Review the proposal document and identify work to be subcontracted if any.
- Prepare technical description and bid pricing structure for subcontracted work based on schedule and company specification in coordination with the Subcontracts Administrator and Proposal Coordinator.
- Provide response to technical clarifications from tendering Subcontractors if any.
- Offer support on engineering-related matters to the Project, Procurement, and Subcontracting Department, ensuring competent suppliers or service providers are chosen.
- Manage typical subcontracts including survey, dredging and trenching, pipe haul barges, near shore crossing, and pipeline pre-commissioning.
Costing and Financial Planning
- Prepare miscellaneous costs for offshore work including barge rig-ups and designs, port clearances, and project consumables.
- Incorporate inputs from Diving, E&M, Safety, and identify all other costs for compliance with tender documents.
Coordination and Collaboration
- Coordinate with other departments within the project team to ensure smooth operations.
- Review Engineering studies conducted for the tender with regards to Offshore Operation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
- 7 to 9 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with Major Contractors or consultants.
- At least 2 to 3 years of Operations and field Engineering experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Thorough knowledge of Excel spreadsheet with Macro commands.
- MS Project scheduling software.
- Familiar with Subcontract activities.
- Basic knowledge in Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge in AutoCAD.
