Senior Engineer, Reservoir Simulation

Role Overview

Senior Engineer, Reservoir Simulation at ADNOC. This role is responsible for developing and updating black oil and compositional simulation models to support field development planning and long-term reservoir management.

Role Purpose

Update and generate black oil and compositional simulation models aligned with field development planning, short and long-term production profiles. Conduct model sensitivities and prioritize development schemes applying best practices, uncertainty and risk assessment, and economics. Undertake reservoir simulation studies to attain stated objectives and translate results into operational guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Reservoir Characterization & Modelling

• Coordinate with Geoscientists on reservoir characterization and upscaling.
• Build full field simulation models, perform history matching, and use them for predictions.
• Conduct quality checks and verify consistency of simulation models, history match scenarios, and geological model characteristics.
• Develop characterization of reservoir fluids and Equation of State (EOS) modelling, calibration, and conversion of simple black oil models to compositional.
• Diagnose model convergence and run-time problems.
• Apply multiphase flow in the reservoir, effective permeability concept, and correlations for relative permeability.
• Integrate pressure and production test results for reservoir simulation and management decisions.

Development & Optimization Studies

• Conduct special simulation studies for Field Development optimization, including well pacing, infill wells, advanced wells, and pilots.
• Coordinate with Technical Centre in designing IOR/EOR methods (WI, Immiscible GI, Miscible GI, Surfactant and polymer injection) to enhance recovery and pressure maintenance.
• Design, follow up, QC, and analyse reservoir studies including RCA, SCAL, and PVT.
• Identify required actions using simulation models to maximize recovery and meet current production quotas.

Reserves Estimation & Economics

• Apply different methods of reserves estimation using probabilistic and deterministic methods (Mbal, DCA, and simulation model sensitivities).

Reservoir Monitoring & Data Management

• Contribute to the reservoir monitoring program and data gathering with effective cost program to enable collection of necessary data for best reservoir management and reduce uncertainties.
• Participate in periodic update and validation of database with monthly production and injection data and descriptions to display wells, reservoir, and field performance.
• Support Simulation model recalibration with appropriate data distribution.

Stakeholder & Contractor Management

• Liaise with contractors conducting studies, analyse and review findings, and assess study recommendations.

Supervision & Team Development

• Plan, supervise, and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
• Train and develop assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver section objectives.

Budget & Performance Management

• Provide input for preparation of Department/Section budgets and assist in implementation of approved budgets and work plans to deliver section objectives.
• Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.
• Contribute to the achievement of approved Performance Objectives for the Department/Section in line with Company Performance framework.

Policies, Systems & Procedures

• Implement approved Department/Section policies, processes, systems, standards, and procedures to support execution of work programs in line with Company and International standards.
• Comply with all applicable legislation and legal regulations.
• Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
• Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with ISO standards to define intelligent solutions.

Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability

• Comply with ADNOC Onshore/ADNOC HSE procedure requirements.
• Report all incidents and occupational illness to line supervisor.
• Immediately consult line supervisor if aware of any unsafe practice or condition, or in doubt about the safety of any situation.
• Carry out emergency responsibilities in line with respective roles as per the emergency organization.
• Be familiar with the ADNOC HSE Recognition and Accountability Framework requirements.
• Comply with all applicable HSE requirements at all times.
• Exercise STOP Work Authority if any unsafe act or situation puts you or colleagues at risk.

Reporting

• Provide inputs to prepare Section MIS and progress reports for Company Management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor Degree in Reservoir Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
• 6–8 years of experience in reservoir engineering, including oil and gas fields' development management and Full Field simulation studies using software models.
• Reservoir and Production Operations knowledge.
• Analytical Reservoir characterization (Material Balance) knowledge.
• Numerical reservoir simulation experience (Eclipse, Intersect).
• Pressure Transient Analysis and Well Performance knowledge.
• PVT Modelling experience.
