Senior Engineer, Asset Integrity (Process Safety)

Role Overview

Senior Engineer, Asset Integrity (Process Safety) at ADNOC, based in Al Dhafra Petroleum Operating Company. This is a critical operational role ensuring the integrity and reliability of company assets, including pipelines, structures, wellhead towers, equipment, and wells throughout their lifecycle.

Role Purpose

Act as Technical Authority for asset integrity, providing expert guidance during design, construction, and operations phases. Lead efforts to challenge and improve existing asset design and integrity practices to enhance asset performance, reduce well costs, improve asset life, achieve optimum risk mitigation, and support operational excellence. Monitor asset integrity Key Performance Indicators and prepare periodic integrity reports on asset status, risk registers, KPIs, and planned and outstanding maintenance and inspection activities.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Integrity & Technical Authority

• Serve as Technical Authority for Facility Integrity, providing expert guidance and oversight during design, construction, and operations stages of assets.
• Comply with Asset Integrity Management System requirements as per ADNOC Upstream Integrity Code and industry standards (ISO, API, and equivalent).
• Participate in projects' technical reviews and pre-startup safety reviews to ensure AIMS requirements are included and facilities are ready for operation.
• Collaborate and provide technical support with cross-functional teams to integrate Facility Integrity considerations into offshore facility design, construction, and operation.
• Coordinate and collaborate with contractors and service providers to ensure compliance with Facility Integrity requirements, industry codes, and standards.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to contractors and service providers regarding Facility Integrity and Process Safety requirements.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to align Facility Integrity objectives and best practices.

Corrosion Management & Condition Monitoring

• Coordinate and implement all corrosion mitigation and condition monitoring programs within approved budget to ensure integrity of static equipment.
• Ensure all technical aspects related to corrosion and quality control management and integrity assessment are undertaken in conformance with company standards and industry codes of practice.
• Ensure satisfactory implementation and evaluation of all chemical treatment programs formulated for internal corrosion control.
• Provides technical support to operations departments on corrosion control, corrosion prevention measures, and inspection and condition assessment aspects to ensure fit-for-service condition of assets.
• Carries out technical investigations regarding metallurgical failures and deterioration of static equipment and pipelines.
• Oversight intelligent pipeline and facilities tool inspection analyses of recorded data and recommends necessary inspection and repair programs.

Maintenance, Inspection & Data Management

• Ensure all maintenance and repair plans for static equipment and pipelines are performed in accordance with industry best practices, quality, and HSE standards.
• Ensure updating of available data management systems with inspection and corrosion findings for each equipment and facility, with major problem areas accurately and timely logged and identified.
• Ensure appropriate data is collected and reviewed to monitor and manage well potential flow assurance anomalies.
• Ensure appropriate Assets Maintenance and Surveillance works are planned and executed as per company requirements.
• Drive implementation of the Annual Integrity Plan within assigned assets and keep respective management informed of progress status.

Asset Integrity Management & Compliance

• Manage asset integrity interfaces between all functions.
• Act as Technical Advisor for company Facility Integrity Management.
• Support Asset Integrity Management Program in Al Dhafra Petroleum Operating Company.
• Coordinate with Projects, Drilling, and Site Operations to ensure well barriers are appropriately designed, integrity is established and maintained during assets' full life cycle.
• Review any Management of Change (MOC) and dispensations to continue operating assets deemed lower risk with appropriate mitigations; track such assets under dispensation in various fields and prepare combined KPI.
• Ensure routine asset integrity monitoring and analysis.
• Lead projects related to asset integrity management for existing assets and future projects.

KPI Monitoring & Performance Reporting

• Monitor and analyze company asset integrity Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identifying trends and initiating appropriate actions to improve performance.
• Collaborate with service providers to ensure Company Asset Integrity KPIs are met.

Incident Investigation & Remedial Action

• Lead investigations into asset integrity incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Review reports related to integrity and track remedial actions to ensure all outstanding issues are captured in AIMS databases for mitigating solutions in timely manner.
• Communicate analysis and trends of integrity threats to field involved parties and management.
• Issues integrity reports to the Asset Holder on inspection and corrosion findings and recommendations of mitigation plans; follow up timely implementation of mitigating actions and restoring equipment conditions.
• Facilitate verification audits and failure investigations related to asset integrity, recommend remedial measures, and follow up on their implementation.

Anomaly Investigation & Troubleshooting

• Lead required Assets Integrity anomaly investigation and troubleshooting activities and ensure appropriate actions and solutions.
• Participate in HAZOP and Risk Assessment activities associated with well changes and problems that may have potential impact on integrity.
• Carry out studies addressing specific operational integrity problems as assigned and prepare appropriate recommendations and action plans for immediate solution.
• Incorporate lessons learned from previous experience to company wells and assets integrity management strategy for future and existing projects.
• Ensure appropriate investigation is initiated and lessons learned are incorporated by vendors and contractors when required.

Field Operations & Site Visits

• Conduct site visits to represent Al Dhafra Production operations team when required.
• Conduct site visits to audit and verify wells and assets integrity management compliance.
• Conduct site visits to provide inputs for new development projects.
• Attend vendor workshops for witnessing activities or conduct audits on company behalf.

Supervision & Team Development

• Plan, supervise, and coordinate all activities in assigned area to meet functional objectives.
• Train and develop assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver Department objectives.

Budget & Operational Planning

• Provide input for preparation of functional budgets and assist in implementation of approved budget and work plans to deliver Department objectives.
• Investigate and highlight any significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.

Policies, Systems & Procedures

• Support implementation of Department policies, processes, systems, standards, procedures, and internal controls and Company guidelines to support execution of the Division's work programs in line with Company and international standards.
• Comply with all applicable legislation and legal regulations.

Performance Management & People Development

• Contribute to achievement of approved Performance Objectives for the function in line with Company Performance framework.
• Develop personal knowledge, competency, and innovative spirit in the Department and support establishment of Personal Development Plans (PDPs).
• Support smooth integration of UAE nationals into the workforce.

Risk Management

• Support establishment of Corporate Integrated Risk Management System within the Department, while identifying and assessing relevant domain risks and implementing measures to manage and mitigate all identified risks.
• Comply with business ethics and Company's Code of Conduct and ensure compliance to Corporate Policies and guidelines.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

• Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve quality and efficiency of operational processes.
• Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with best industry standards to define intelligent solutions for issues confronting the function.

Health, Safety, Environment & Sustainability

• Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures, and controls and applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices, and ADNOC Code of Practices.

Management Information Systems & Reporting

• Prepare periodic reports for Senior Management providing updates on asset issues status, risk register, KPIs, and planned and outstanding maintenance and inspection activities for offshore and onshore assets.
• Provide inputs to prepare Department Management Information Systems and progress reports for Company Management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
• 8–12 years' experience in petroleum engineering activities related to Asset Integrity Management, investigation and evaluation of integrity issues, risk assessment, risk ranking, and mitigation planning.
• Strong understanding of Asset Integrity Management sub-elements (PIMS, SIMS, Corrosion Integrity, Maintenance and Inspection, Well Integrity, and Operating Integrity) management processes.
• Good knowledge of Asset Integrity Management for offshore and onshore structures in a large oil and gas sector environment.

Skills & Competencies

• Highly skilled technically and professionally with thorough understanding of asset construction and completion design.
• Demonstrable experience in maintenance and integrity philosophies and practices.
• Strong technical knowledge of ADNOC Upstream Integrity Code and industry standards (ISO, API, and equivalent).

Additional Information

Reporting & Internal Relationships

• Reports directly to Manager, Operation.
• Communicates Al Dhafra Petroleum asset integrity process safety KPIs to ADNOC Upstream; coordinates with ADNOC Onshore to ensure production operational support during facilities intervention activities.
