Rotating Equipment Technician

Role Overview

The Rotating Equipment Technician is a regular position within Shell's Integrated Gas business unit, based in Qatar. This is an early careers role posted on September 10, 2026, within the Central Maintenance Team at the Pearl GTL Complex.

Role Purpose

The Rotating Equipment Technician maintains critical rotating equipment according to approved maintenance strategies, procedures, and work instructions to ensure the availability and integrity of rotating equipment and systems in alignment with company requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Execution

• Execute maintenance jobs on time, safely, and with high quality.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with the AMS ME Process.
• Carry out maintenance in compliance with the company's Code of Conduct, procedures, and Permit to Work requirements.

Equipment Diagnosis and Repair

• Diagnose and resolve complex issues, non-compliance, and overhaul large and small rotating equipment.
• Troubleshoot and maintain dry gas seals and wet seals, white metal bearings, and mechanical transmission assemblies.
• Perform cold and hot alignment on-site.
• Inspect gas turbines (CI/HGPI/Major) and steam turbines (Minor/Major).
• Commission and test rotating equipment.
• Check shafts, stator/rotor, and bearing clearances.

Planning and Resource Management

• Establish job plans, cost estimates, and durations.
• Compile maintenance and integrity activity plans.
• Identify spare parts requirements and update re-order quantities.
• Manage contract services.

Technical Application

• Specify controls for engineering hazards.
• Modify plant systems per approved change requests.
• Interpret technical drawings, OEM manuals, and standards.
• Apply correct tools and precision measuring instruments.
• Maintain air systems and hydraulic components.
• Apply proper lubrication types and methods.

Continuous Improvement

• Drive continuous improvement across maintenance delivery.

Qualifications & Experience

• Technical education in an engineering discipline to at least Diploma level or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 to 12 years of proven experience in the Oil/Gas/Petrochemical industry.
• Specific experience in the maintenance of large rotating equipment, including pumps, compressors, turbines, engines, and generators.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in safety-critical activities.
• Knowledge of handheld and online equipment condition monitoring systems.
• Knowledge of vibration analysers and ability to interpret records.
• Understanding of rotating equipment international standards and DEPs.
• Knowledge of machining operations in workshop machine tools.
• Knowledge of dynamic balancing of rotating equipment.
