Research Specialist I

Role Overview

Research Specialist I at Sidra Medicine. This role performs routine and moderately complex scientific laboratory technical work, selecting and applying laboratory procedures and techniques to assignments with clear, specific objectives.

Role Purpose

To support the delivery of departmental research goals through hands-on laboratory technical work, data collection and processing, and contributions to ongoing research projects under general supervision, while exercising judgment in making technical decisions and escalating complex issues as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations

• Perform all routine lab procedures and associated responsibilities as dictated by workload in the rostered area.
• Adhere to lab standard operating procedures and perform quality control checks.
• Assess lab inventory and order supplies when needed.
• Modify practices and techniques in routine situations to perform duties, adjust and correlate data, and recognize discrepancies in results.

Research Support

• Contribute to ongoing research projects in the laboratory, including taking measurements and recording observations.
• Collect, compile and process data for research initiatives.
• Stay current with literature in ongoing and proposed research projects.
• Solve moderately complex problems and perform a specific variety of technical assignments within broader projects.

Improvement & Development

• Make recommendations to the Investigator regarding improvements in methods and processes.
• Train junior lab technical staff in basics of research workflow.
• Present novel research and techniques to research group.
• Demonstrate evidence of ongoing continual development and personal development.

Funding & Compliance

• Assist in procurement of additional or new funding through contributions to technical proposal preparation and presentations.
• Adhere to Sidra's standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.
• Adhere to and promote Sidra's Values.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
• 3+ years of experience in research laboratory environment, or 1 year of work experience at Sidra.
• Demonstrated functional knowledge and laboratory experience in relevant field.

Skills & Competencies

• Demonstrated strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of biomedical research, research equipment and environmental safety and accident prevention measures.
• Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
