Registered Nurse - OPD (Sharjah)

Role Overview

Registered Nurse - OPD at NMC Healthcare, Sharjah. The post holder assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient needs while prioritizing health, wellbeing and safety within the scope of nursing practice.

Role Purpose

Provide and coordinate patient care in the Outpatient Department, educate patients and the public about health conditions, and deliver advice and emotional support to patients and their families while working collaboratively with physicians and allied health specialists.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Diagnosis

• Perform systematic patient assessment, reassessment and collect pertinent data about the patient's health or situation.
• Understand and analyse the assessment information and data.
• Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems and issues.
• Record vital signs, recognize, address and escalate all abnormalities.

Care Planning & Implementation

• Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient's planned care.
• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, in collaboration with the patient and patient's bystanders.
• Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment.

Clinical Interventions

• Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.
• Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.
• Provide wound care management.
• Assist in medical procedures, invasive or non-invasive, as needed.
• Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.

Life Support & Emergency Care

• Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation.

Patient Education & Support

• Educate patients and the public about various health conditions.
• Provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
• Employ strategies to promote patients' health and a safe environment.

Technical & Professional Development

• Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.
• Manage own professional re-licensure.
• Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

• Work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists and allied health in various settings.
• Be willing to work across departments when necessary.

Patient Flow & Administration

• Facilitate the process of safe patient admission, transfer and discharge.
• Use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation with organizational and administrative skills.

Qualifications & Experience

• Hold an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all qualifications and experience mandated by that authority.
• Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.

Skills & Competencies

• Communicate clearly and effectively in English, spoken and written.
• Communicate effectively in Arabic (desirable).
• Evidence of ability to work as part of an inter-professional team.
• Organizational and administrative skills.
