Registered Nurse - OPD (OB-GYN)

Role Overview

Registered Nurse - OPD (OB-GYN) at NMC Healthcare. The role delivers high-quality patient care in the outpatient obstetrics and gynecology department, assessing patients' health conditions, creating and implementing care plans, administering medications, and monitoring patient progress.

Role Purpose

Provide and coordinate comprehensive patient care in the OB-GYN outpatient department, educate patients and the public about health conditions, and offer advice and emotional support to patients and their families while working collaboratively with physicians and allied health specialists.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment & Care Planning

• Perform systematic patient assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient's health or situation.
• Understand and analyze assessment information and data.
• Perform initial assessment of patients, including baseline observations and CTG if required.
• Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.
• Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient's planned care.
• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the medical team.
• Define the care plan in collaboration with the healthcare team, patients, and families.
• Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment.
• Responsible for assessment and reassessment of patients.

Clinical Monitoring & Observation

• Record vital signs, recognize and address abnormalities.
• Monitor patients for medication side effects and reactions.
• Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.
• Identify and promptly report obstetric emergencies to the doctor.

Medication & Treatment Administration

• Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.
• Prepares, administers and documents medication as per hospital policy, if given to the patient.
• Perform the Appropriateness review of medications before preparing and administering medications as required.
• Provide wound care management.
• Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.

Obstetric & Gynecological Procedures

• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge in the nursing care of patients undergoing gynecological and obstetrical procedures.
• Performs nursing procedures with attention to accuracy in patient safety and comfort.
• Ensures strict aseptic techniques are followed while performing various gynecological and obstetrical procedures.
• Assists doctors during specific procedures performed in the outpatient department.
• Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.

Infection Control & Safety

• Maintain and update the technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.
• Employ strategies to promote patients' health and a safe environment.
• Responsible for maintaining clean unit as per infection control and waste management policy of the hospital.
• Perform essential life support (BLS).
• Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory exams.

Patient & Family Education

• Provide appropriate health teaching to patient and family about further management and care.
• Educate patients and the public about various health conditions.

Admission & Discharge

• Facilitate the process of safe patient admission and discharge.

Qualifications & Experience

• Hold an appropriate license to work as a nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority (DoH, DHA) with all the qualification and experience this mandates.
• Basic life support qualification within the past 24 months.
• Active interest in the clinical field in which they are employed.
