Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment and Care Planning

• Perform systematic patient assessment, re-assessment and collect pertinent data about the patient's health or situation.
• Understand and analyse the assessment information and data.
• Determine actual and potential nursing diagnoses, problems, and issues.
• Define the predicted and expected outcomes of the patient's planned care.
• Create and evaluate patient care plans with the interprofessional team, in collaboration with the patient and patient's bystanders.
• Assess and identify patients' needs and implement and monitor the patient's medical plan and treatment.

Clinical Monitoring and Vital Signs

• Record vital signs, recognize, address and escalate all abnormalities.
• Monitor patients for any side effects and reactions to medications.
• Monitor patients for any reactions to treatments such as IV fluids or blood products.
• Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients such as cardiac monitor, syringe pump, infusion pump, feeding pump, blood warmer, wound VAC, cooling blanket and patient warmer.
• Handles and monitors patients with Suprapubic catheter, Foley catheter, nasogastric/jejunal tube or having total parenteral nutrition as well as enteral feeding through the tubes.
• Assists and monitors patients during haemodialysis.

Medical Procedures and Treatments

• Administer medications and monitor patients for any side effects and reactions.
• Administer treatments such as IV fluids or blood products and monitor patients for any reactions.
• Prepare patients for medical examination and treatment.
• Assist in medical procedures invasive or non-invasive as needed.
• Assists in lumbar puncture, insertion of central line, intercostal drain, and demonstrates competency to handle those devices.
• Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians/therapists with procedures.

Specialized Care and Equipment Management

• Demonstrates competency in handling patients on mechanical ventilator through endotracheal tubes or tracheostomy.
• Provides care for the patients on non-invasive ventilation, such as BIPAP and CPAP.
• Provide wound care management.
• Handles and monitors patients with Suprapubic catheter, Foley catheter, nasogastric/jejunal tube or having total parenteral nutrition as well as enteral feeding through the tubes.
• Provides post-acute rehabilitation care along with therapy services.
• Offers specialized comfort care for patients on palliative or end of life care.

Life Support and Emergency Response

• Perform essential life support as per regulatory requirements and scope such as but not limited to Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation etc.

Patient Education and Support

• Provide and coordinate patient care, educating patients and the public about various health conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
• Employ strategies to promote patients' health and a safe environment.

Admission, Transfer and Discharge

• Facilitate the process of safe patient's admission, transfer and discharge.

Professional Development and Practice

• Maintain and update technical and clinical skills related to nursing practice.
• Understand different diagnostic tests and laboratory examinations.
• Work with a team of physicians and other health care specialists or allied health in various settings.

Qualifications & Experience

• Hold an appropriate license to work as a registered nurse in the relevant regulatory health authority with all the qualifications and experience these mandates.
• Manage their own professional re-licensure.
• Hold a valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider card.

Skills & Competencies

• Communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
• Demonstrate an ability to work as part of an inter-professional team.
• Demonstrate organizational and administrative skills with which to use the electronic medical record platform for clinical documentation.
• Demonstrate competency in handling patients on mechanical ventilator through endotracheal tubes or tracheostomy.
• Demonstrate competency to handle central lines, intercostal drains and similar devices.
• Ability to communicate effectively in Arabic (desirable).
