Quantity Surveyor

Role Overview

Quantity Surveyor at HILL International. This role manages cost estimation, materials tracking, and financial control across large-scale infrastructure and development projects.

Role Purpose

To estimate project costs, material quantities, and timelines; liaise across project teams to keep delivery on track; and ensure clients receive value for money through rigorous cost management and financial control.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Estimation & Planning

• Study drawings and specifications at project initiation to calculate material quantities, labor costs, and time required for construction.
• Provide early cost advice to budget and benchmark projects.
• Prepare life cycle cost plans.
• Prepare and submit cost estimates and budgets for projects.
• Conduct studies to estimate materials, time, and labor costs.

Tender & Contract Management

• Support preparation of tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with clients and consultants.
• Undertake cost analysis for variations and claims.
• Advise on contractual claims and disputes.

Financial Control & Reporting

• Value completed work and arrange payments.
• Review and analyze contractor and supplier invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance with contractual obligations.
• Continually analyze budget outcomes and write budget reports.
• Prepare and present regular reports to management, providing updates on project costs, budget variances, and potential risks.
• Track changes to design and construction work and adjust budget projections accordingly.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Liaise with a range of teams working on the project to help keep it on track.
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to develop cost-effective solutions and resolve issues during construction.

Compliance & Professional Development

• Inform yourself of relevant Quality, Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Policies, Manuals, and Procedures in place within HILL International.
• Ensure continued compliance with these requirements while employed.
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and developments and incorporate best practices into cost management processes.

General Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned by your line manager or supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor degree in engineering from an accredited university.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in large-scale infrastructure or city development projects.
• Proven experience in handling contractors' progress payments.
• Experience in the construction of water and wastewater projects.
• Knowledge of professional project management processes and procedures.
• Experience of working internationally.
