Product Designer

Role Overview

Product Designer at Metabolic, a specialist metabolic medicine clinic launching in Knightsbridge, London. You will own the full design surface across mobile app, web, patient-facing interfaces, clinician-facing tools, and design system.

Company Overview

Metabolic is a specialist metabolic medicine clinic combining clinical depth with a digital-first patient experience across four areas: weight management and obesity, diabetes and pre-diabetes, cardiovascular risk, and hormonal and thyroid health. The clinic is launching in Knightsbridge, London, and building the product layer from the ground up.

Role Purpose

To design and ship the complete digital experience for Metabolic's patients and clinicians, setting the quality standard and maintaining consistency across all touchpoints while moving at pace in a small, high-performing team.

Key Responsibilities

Design System

• Build and maintain the Metabolic design system across web and mobile.
• Establish component libraries in Figma with documented token sets and interaction patterns.
• Maintain design system discipline as the product grows.
• Set the standard for design system decisions across the organization.

Mobile and Web Product Design

• Design across the full stack of digital touchpoints, from patient app to booking funnel to clinician dashboard.
• Optimize design for different contexts and screen sizes—mobile at 7am and 27-inch monitors in consultation rooms.
• Ensure quality across all interfaces.

Data Visualization and Health Interfaces

• Design biomarker data presentations, scoring systems, and trend charts that patients and clinicians use to make decisions.
• Present complex data in ways that remain legible and actionable for end users.

AI-Augmented Workflow

• Use AI tools meaningfully in your design process, including Figma Make, Google Stitch, Claude for design exploration, and v0 for rapid prototyping.
• Identify where AI accelerates work and where it does not.
• Maintain independent judgment and do not outsource decision-making to AI.

Cross-functional Execution

• Work closely with engineers and contribute meaningfully to implementation conversations.
• Understand the build-time cost of design decisions and make informed tradeoffs.
• Inspect CSS, review components in codebases, and identify implementation risks early.
• Ensure design quality through to shipping.

Qualifications & Experience

• 3 or more years designing digital products across mobile and web.
• Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end thinking: problem framing, iteration, and shipping, not just polished final screens.
• Real experience owning or significantly contributing to a design system.
• Strong data visualization work—dashboards, health data, scoring interfaces, or complex information made legible.
• Experience working in small teams where you moved fast and made decisions without perfect information.

Skills & Competencies

• Figma at a high level: components, variables, auto-layout, prototyping, and developer handoff.
• Working knowledge of AI-powered design tools and a clear point of view on which are useful.
• HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript sufficient to have informed conversations with engineers and catch implementation issues early.
• User research: knowing when to run it, how to synthesize it, and how to use it without it becoming a delay.
• Excellent written communication: document design decisions clearly and maintain Figma files that do not require guided tours.

Additional Information

Strong Plus

• Experience with health tech products: patient-facing apps, clinical tools, EMR integrations, wearable data.
• Design experience in regulated environments (GDPR, MHRA, CQC adjacent) and understanding of what compliance means for UX decisions.
• Use of tools like Framer, Webflow, or similar to build prototypes beyond Figma's native capabilities.
• Opinion on what good looks like in AI-native product design.
