PIPE OPERATOR

Role Overview

Pipe Operator for Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger with NMDC Group.

Role Purpose

Operate, monitor, and maintain dredge pipeline systems on modern trailing suction hopper dredgers, ensuring safe and efficient suction, discharge, and shore connection operations during dredging and reclamation activities.

Key Responsibilities

Pipeline Operations

• Operate and monitor dredge pipeline systems including suction, discharge, and shore connections.
• Control opening and closing of valves, pipe joints, and floating and shore pipeline sections.
• Assist in connecting and disconnecting floating pipelines during dredging and reclamation operations.
• Coordinate with the dredge control room and deck crew during pumping and discharge operations.
• Maintain communication via radio with relevant departments during operations.

Pipeline Integrity & Safety

• Ensure proper alignment and stability of pipelines to avoid leaks or ruptures.
• Monitor pressure gauges and flow rates.
• Report abnormalities to the Dredge Master or Chief Engineer.
• Follow safety procedures during high-pressure pumping and pipeline handling operations.
• Support emergency response in case of pipeline burst or spillage incidents.

Maintenance & Inspection

• Carry out routine inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of pipes, joints, and rubber hoses.
• Detect and rectify minor leakages, blockages, or pipeline failures.

Environmental & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with environmental and operational standards during discharge activities.

Vessel Operations Support

• Assist in anchor handling and positioning related to pipeline laying.

Documentation & Records

• Keep records of pipeline operations, maintenance, and incidents as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Basic STCW training Certificate and Medical Certificate.
• Certificate of Competency as Rating forming part of Navigation Watch.
• 5–10 years' rank experience on modern trailing suction hopper dredgers.
