Job description

Role Overview

Physiotherapist at NMC Healthcare in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Role Purpose

Treat patients with physical difficulties resulting from illness, injury, disability or ageing across all age groups. Work with patients to identify and improve their movement and function, promote health and wellbeing, and assist rehabilitation by developing and restoring neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Assessment and Treatment

  • Work with patients to identify the physical problem.
  • Develop and review treatment programs comprising manual therapy, movement, therapeutic exercise and technological equipment application, e.g. ultrasound.
  • Assist patients with joint and spinal problems, especially following surgery.
  • Help patients with rehabilitation following accidents, injuries, and strokes.
  • Provide advice on how to avoid injury.
  • Educate and advise patients and their carers about how to prevent and improve conditions.
  • Ensure physiotherapy treatments are based on sound evidence of benefit.

Clinical Documentation and Reporting

  • Write patient case notes and reports.
  • Collect patient statistics.
  • Ensure all adverse clinical events are recorded and reported.

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Supervise physiotherapy assistants.
  • Supervise and instruct physiotherapy aides.
  • Work as a professional member of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team and actively participate in team meetings.
  • Effectively communicate with staff members, health professionals, clients, and families regarding the provision of physiotherapy services.

Equipment and Resource Management

  • Ensure physiotherapy equipment is adequately maintained.
  • Liaise with the HOD for the ordering of supplies and equipment.

Education and Professional Development

  • Contribute to and participate in education programs for residents, relatives, and staff of NMCRH-KC.
  • Participate in continuing education and courses to update physiotherapy techniques and information.

Quality, Safety and Compliance

  • Undertake duties in accordance with the philosophy, business practices, and policies of NMCRH-KC, and practice within the standards and ethics of the physiotherapy profession.
  • Participate in the NMCRH-KC Quality Management System and commit to continuous improvement activities, including auditing, surveys, and needs analysis.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist in the ongoing maintenance of a safe workplace through involvement in the implementation of safe systems of work.
  • Identify and report hazards in the workplace.
  • Notify OSH of hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues, and assist with the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
  • Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures, and cooperate with hospital management to comply with those requirements.
  • Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and instructions and fulfil specific responsibilities.
  • Comply with waste management procedures and policies.
  • Attend applicable OSH and infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the HOD or the Medical Director.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid DOH (HAAD) license to practice in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.
  • Graduate from an approved college or university in physiotherapy.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as physiotherapist in a JCI accredited hospital facility.
  • Current license in the country of origin.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent command of oral and written English.
  • Arabic language skills are advantageous but not essential.
  • Sound computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work in cordial conditions within a group practice in a hospital setting and as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of the range and types of services available for aged and disabled persons.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to meet client and organizational requirements.
  • Commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
