Role Overview

Oracle KVM Virtualization Engineer, Level 2, at DeepSource Technologies, Dubai, UAE.

Role Purpose

Manage and support enterprise production Oracle Linux KVM virtualization infrastructure across 24x7 managed services environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of mission-critical virtual machines and hypervisor platforms.

Key Responsibilities

Hypervisor & Infrastructure Management

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain Oracle Linux KVM hypervisors.
• Support infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and technology refresh activities.
• Apply hypervisor patches, Linux kernel updates, and security hardening.
• Manage technical documentation and operational procedures.

Virtual Machine Lifecycle

• Manage the complete VM lifecycle, including provisioning, configuration, migration, and decommissioning.
• Manage VM backup and restore activities in coordination with backup teams.
• Support DR environments and VM replication strategies.

High Availability & Performance

• Configure and support High Availability (HA) and live migration.
• Monitor virtualization platform health, performance, capacity, and availability.
• Perform CPU, memory, and disk I/O performance tuning.
• Troubleshoot host failures, VM crashes, resource contention, and virtualization performance issues.

Storage & Networking Integration

• Manage storage integration with KVM hosts, including iSCSI, NFS, SAN, and Fibre Channel (FC).
• Configure and troubleshoot virtual networking, including VLANs, bridges, and bonding.

Incident & Problem Management

• Troubleshoot host failures, VM crashes, resource contention, and virtualization performance issues.
• Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for production incidents.
• Follow ITIL-based Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes.
• Provide L2 support within a 24x7 managed services environment.

Cross-Team Coordination

• Coordinate with Linux/OS, Storage, Network, Backup, and Cloud teams.

Qualifications & Experience

• 8–12 years of experience in virtualization and Linux administration.
• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Linux KVM.
• Strong knowledge of KVM and libvirt.
• Experience managing enterprise production virtualization environments.
• Hands-on experience with HA and live migration.
• Strong knowledge of Oracle Linux and RHEL.
• Experience supporting Production and DR environments.
• Hands-on experience with iSCSI, NFS, SAN, and Fibre Channel (FC).
• Experience with virtualization performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Experience with patching, upgrades, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
• Familiarity with ITIL Incident, Problem, and Change Management.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong understanding of virtualization architecture and resource allocation.
• Strong understanding of virtual networking including VLANs, Linux Bridges, and bonding.
• Basic scripting knowledge using Shell and/or Python.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and incident-management skills.
