Role Overview
Nursing Coordinator - Endoscopy at NMC Healthcare. This role provides direct supervision and coordination of activities in the assigned endoscopy department.
Role Purpose
To direct, supervise, and coordinate all administrative and clinical nursing activities within the endoscopy department, ensuring optimal patient safety, staffing coverage, equipment maintenance, and compliance with hospital policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Staffing & Scheduling
- Provide appropriate nursing staffing coverage for unscheduled absenteeism, sick leave, or changes in patient census while maintaining patient safety.
- Manage daily and vacation scheduling for nursing staff.
- Supervise the review and preparation of the duty roster and advise In-charge nurses of required amendments.
- Plan orientations for all new staff.
- Ensure trainings are conducted, including general, departmental, FMS, and OSH orientation for new and transferred employees, and refresher training for department staff.
Operations & Logistics
- Supervise the development of appropriate inventory systems to prevent shortages or overstocking in the department.
- Coordinate patient placement for optimal utilization of beds and equipment based on patient care needs triage.
- Organize emergency medications, equipment, supplies, and services for patient care needs.
- Ensure preventive and ongoing maintenance of equipment is carried out and report all failures or deficiencies through appropriate department heads.
- Conduct organized, timely nursing rounds to assess the current situation of patients.
Patient Flow & Transfer
- Facilitate the placement of patients in conjunction with Admission, Discharge, Transfer processes and in liaison with In-charge nurses.
- Coordinate the patient transfer in and transfer out process of the hospital.
- Coordinate ambulance movement for transferring patients within the hospital and while transferring patients out of the hospital.
Governance & Safety
- Develop unit policies and procedures involving all patient care issues and act as an advocate for patients and nursing.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of fire safety, patient safety, infection control, waste management, and other necessary precautions per hospital policy.
- Comply with all occupational safety and health (OSH) and infection control policies, standards, and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to ensure compliance.
- Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and instructions and specific responsibilities.
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
- Notify OSH hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues and assist with preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
- Comply with waste management procedures and policies.
- Attend applicable OSH and infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
- Ensure employees follow applicable OSH and infection control policies, procedures, and standards.
- Provide OSH information, training, and supervision to staff.
- Report any OSH-relevant incidents, near misses, and hazards in the department in a timely manner.
- Ensure that incident corrective actions have been implemented.
- Assist with preparation of risk assessments and monitor control measures.
Interdepartmental & Administrative
- Deal with other departments to solve inter-unit or inter-departmental problems.
- Act as a managerial resource for In-charge nurses and all nursing staff.
- Actively participate in nominated hospital committee meetings.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the Nursing Administrator.
- Manage the Disaster Control Center in emergency situations until the Medical Director, Administrative Director, or Nursing Director arrives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in an outpatient department.
- At least 2 years' experience as an In-charge Nurse or equivalent grade in a relevant clinical area.
Skills & Competencies
- Fluent spoken and written English.
- Spoken Arabic is advantageous but not essential.
- Sound decision-making and leadership abilities.
