Medical Lab Technologist (Corniche Fertility Center)

Role Overview

Medical Lab Technologist at SEHA, Corniche Fertility Center. The role conducts laboratory procedures independently or under senior supervision, following operational rules and procedures.

Role Purpose

To perform laboratory analysis of specimens, operate and maintain equipment, and deliver accurate results to physicians while maintaining quality standards, compliance, and patient confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations

• Conduct analysis of specimens to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
• Operate, calibrate and maintain lab equipment.
• Ensure equipment is used in the correct manner to obtain optimum results.
• Inform Supervisor of equipment malfunction.
• Ensure data capture of lab results onto computer systems.
• Provide results to physicians as per defined SOP.
• Evaluate collected laboratory data and prepare reports as per protocol.

Quality & Compliance

• Promote and maintain quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place.
• Conduct method evaluation and development as per standard policies and procedures.
• Ensure that SOP (standard operation procedures) and Quality Assurance tests are maintained within all sections.
• Comply with all safety, health and quality control programs and procedures as applicable.
• Comply with applicable precautions for environmental safety and infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection.
• Practice within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures.
• Comply with and support clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed.

Inventory & Resources

• Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
• Report shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience.
• Order and approve replenishments when necessary.

Staff Supervision & Development

• Supervise junior staff and ensure their abidance to governing rules and policies as applied and implemented in the Section, Department or Facility as per requirement.
• Participate in training and education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses in the safe and secure handling of drugs and equipment, prescribing (whenever applicable), administration and treatment and management including teaching, induction, peer review, case studies and clinical presentations.
• Participate in the orientation and training of new employees.
• Maintain professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or online education units.

Documentation & Confidentiality

• Document all interventions in appropriate format.
• Maintain the strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded.
• Ensure appropriate internal and external sharing of information based on governing policies and procedures.

Stakeholder Communication

• Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel as necessary to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status.
• Interact courteously with doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers when answering questions or providing other information.

Organizational Engagement

• Participate in department programs and committees, various hospital committees and staff meetings.
• Complete and maintain all regulatory requirements including licensure, certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.

Scheduling & Availability

• Perform on-call and shift duties as assigned, including weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

• 2 years minimum experience in a clinical laboratory environment, OR
• Master's degree in Medical Lab Technology (NLT) with 1 year minimum experience in a clinical laboratory environment, OR
• 4 years minimum experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
• UAE National: upon completion of Internship.
