Mechanical Technician

Role Overview

Mechanical Technician at ACWA Power, Plant - Maintenance department, reporting to Supervisor/Engineer - Mechanical.

Role Purpose

Execute preventive, corrective, and condition-based maintenance activities, annual outage and overhauling work on plant equipment under the direction of the Mechanical Supervisor/Engineer with strict adherence to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance & Safety

• Comply with NOMAC safety rules and regulations.
• Understand, practice and enforce safe work practices related to respiratory protection, elevated work platforms, fall protection, control of hazardous energy (Lockout/Tag-out procedure), fire protection systems, electrical safety, forklift/hoist operation, welding, cutting, brazing, confined space entry, and PPE.
• Ensure proper isolations are carried out before starting maintenance activity on equipment released for maintenance in coordination with Mechanical Supervisor and local operator.

Maintenance Execution

• Perform all maintenance activities in the plant in a timely and safe manner with strict adherence to maintenance procedures and work instructions applicable for respective activities.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose problems and perform maintenance on equipment under jurisdiction.
• Install, adjust, inspect, service and repair a variety of static and rotating mechanical equipment utilized in power and desalination plants.
• Carry out all necessary preparation required for mechanical maintenance to equipment and assigned areas.
• Document maintenance concerns and history for equipment.

Equipment & Resource Management

• Report to Mechanical Supervisor for spare parts and consumables required for activities and update spares availability to cope with maintenance requirements.
• Assume responsibility and accountability for proper care of tools, lifting equipment and any other related devices required to carry out assigned jobs.

Knowledge & Environment

• Understand working knowledge of equipment operation and associated operating systems.
• Perform 5S housekeeping in area of work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational

Desired

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

OR

• Worked as Skilled Mechanical Labor in NOMAC plants for a minimum of 4 years

Preferred

• Bachelor of Engineering

Minimum Experience

• 4 years in the same position

OR

• Worked as Skilled Mechanical Labor in NOMAC plants for a minimum of 4 years

Preferable

• Extensive experience as Mechanical Technician in any of the following types: Conventional, Combined Cycle, Cogeneration, Water Desalination Plants (RO, MSF, MED), and Renewable Energy type (Solar, Wind Mills) plants.

Skills & Competencies

• Generic awareness of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environment Management System principles.
• Work both independently and in a team environment, completing objectives efficiently with a sense of responsibility.
• Work in non-ideal environments such as confined spaces, working at heights and around chemicals.
• Knowledge of identification, classification and disposal of waste.
• Knowledge of environmental and health impact of chemicals being used in the plant.
• Knowledge of firefighting equipment.
• Knowledge of First Aid measures.
• Basic knowledge on Power and Water plant operational activities.
• Basic computer skills.

Desired Certification & Training

• ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001 awareness or working knowledge is preferred.
