Mechanical Pacakge Engineer

Role Overview

Senior Mechanical Package Engineer at KBR, based in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The role focuses on design, specification, and delivery of rotating equipment packages, specialty equipment, and material handling systems for oil and gas, hydrocarbon, and petroleum refinery projects.

Role Purpose

Lead the mechanical package engineering function across FEED, detailed design, and execution phases for medium to large-scale projects in the Middle East, ensuring technical integrity, compliance with international codes, and on-schedule, on-budget delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Specification

• Prepare datasheets, technical specifications, and technical requisitions for rotating equipment and packages including chemical injection packages, fire water and jockey pump packages, produced water packages, and gas sweetening packages.
• Establish technical specifications for compressors, gas turbine generator packages, and handling equipment such as cranes and hoists.
• Perform technical studies including compressor configuration studies, driver selection, life cycle cost studies, and material handling studies.
• Design and specify rotating equipment packages, specialty equipment packages, and material handling equipment packages for onshore brownfield work.

Engineering & Analysis

• Develop knowledge and understanding of design, selection, construction, installation, pre-commissioning, and mechanical completion phases for packages and large-scale turbo machinery.
• Maintain current understanding of industry codes and standards including API 610, 682, 612, 611, 616, 617, 618, 619, 673, 674, 675, and 676.
• Conduct fair understanding and carry out material handling studies considering maintenance requirements of individual equipment and entire packages.
• Apply latest engineering and analytical techniques and software as applicable.

Vendor Management & Procurement

• Coordinate with vendors to evaluate technical proposals and review design documents.
• Perform technical bid evaluations and vendor document review.
• Ensure compliance with project requirements and international codes including ASME, API, and ISO.
• Follow up on technical scope of work with vendors and support process engineers in selecting equipment type.

Project Leadership & Quality

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to the project team, including clients.
• Assume responsibility for design integrity of mechanical scope.
• Support pre-commissioning and commissioning of rotating equipment for brownfield and greenfield projects as necessary.
• Ensure on-schedule delivery of work within budget.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and model reviews for packages.
• Closeout open actions from studies and reviews.
• Collaborate closely with process, electrical, instrumentation, and civil teams to ensure seamless package integration.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 12 years of overall experience required.
• Minimum 6-7 years of experience in oil and gas industry.
• Relevant experience in Middle East.
• Proven experience in design and specification of rotating equipment packages, specialty equipment packages, and material handling equipment packages for oil and gas, hydrocarbon, and petroleum refinery work.
• Experience in FEED, detailed engineering, and concept phases of medium to large-scale projects.
