Manager Commissioning at McDermott. The role manages professional employees and supervisors and is accountable for the performance and results of the Commissioning group. The Manager addresses resource and operational challenges by appropriately adapting departmental plans and priorities.

Role Purpose
The Manager Commissioning leads the Commissioning Department to deliver technical execution and administrative management that supports business objectives. The role ensures coordination across disciplines and projects while developing team performance, capability, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage a generally homogeneous team; adapt plans and priorities to meet production and operational challenges.
- Manage professional employees in the department to success by coaching, reward, and recognition.
- Provide leadership and instruction to employees.
- Provide regular performance feedback to employees in the department.
- Execute annual appraisals of employees.
- Execute performance appraisals of agency personnel.
- Identify high potentials and support the effort of providing them with suitable career opportunities.
- Assure good team spirit in the department.
- Provide leadership and training for the professional development of staff.
Performance & Accountability
- Accountable for the performance and results of a team within its discipline.
- Identify performance gaps and correct them, including systems, equipment, and people resources.
- Responsible for the integrity of the work produced.
- Resolve findings and corrective actions as required.
Recruitment & Staffing
- Support recruitment activities for the department.
- Identify and recruit staff for departmental positions.
- Assign staffing for departmental positions on projects and proposals.
- Maintain staffing levels appropriate to the projected workload.
- Propose salary increases upon request of company management.
Compliance & Governance
- Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures.
- Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures.
- Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams.
Training & Development
- Collect and identify training requests and needs, review for justification, and facilitate implementation.
Project & Operational Management
- Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges.
- Ensure work is being coordinated between the other disciplines, offices, fabrication, and construction to meet project requirements.
- Manage the technical execution to support the business considerations established for the project.
- Stay up-to-date with the status of all projects through the Lead Engineers.
- Support execution plan preparation for every project.
- Assign resources to projects and proposals.
- Prepare or approve man-hours estimates.
- Ensure the MPS system is kept up to date.
- Establish a budget and salary plan for the department.
Quality & Reviews
- Ensure execution of PEA reviews and IDRs on projects.
Communication & Engagement
- Implement communication plan.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead improvement initiatives within the department.
- Support proposals as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Engineering.
- 15+ years of experience and proven leadership experience in oil and gas with major contractor or consultant.
- Significant role in at least three (3) major projects in the oil and gas or chemical process industry demonstrating technical broad knowledge of commissioning and start-up.
Skills & Competencies
- Effective communication skills; able to establish confident relationships with discipline managers, technical engineers, and non-engineers.
- Presentation skills required.
- Good working knowledge of English, both oral and written.
- Proficiency in English; multi-language skills a plus.
- Excellent computer software skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and other engineering software programs.
- Excellent organizational skills and adaptability to the needs of various discipline groups.
Additional Information
- Reports to: Project Manager/Project Director (Project) or VP/Director Engineering (Functional).
- Supervises: Commissioning Engineers, Completions Specialists, Operation & Maintenance specialists, Designers, and support personnel within the function group.
- Liaises with: Discipline Lead Engineers, Project Engineers, Project Engineering Managers, Project Managers, Project Controls, Construction/Fabrication team, Quality, HSSE, and Client designated representatives as required.
- Reassignment to other McDermott offices possible.
