Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Sidra Medicine. The role delivers and organizes basic nursing care to individuals, families, and groups within diverse healthcare settings, collaborating with various healthcare professionals.

Role Purpose
LPNs practice autonomously, safely, competently, and ethically along the continuum of care in situations of health and illness. They provide healthcare services for individuals with low-acuity, stable, and predictable health conditions, with capacity to provide care to patients and families with more complex needs in consultation and coordination with other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care and Assessment
- Practice autonomously, safely, competently, and ethically across health and illness across a person's life course.
- Assess health status of patients with low-acuity, stable, and predictable states of health.
- Plan, implement, evaluate, and document practical nursing care.
- Refer patients to a licensed RN if the patient's condition is not stable or if changes become critical.
- Monitor patients and report any changes or adverse reactions to the physician or registered nurse.
Clinical Procedures and Treatment
- Administer basic medical care and prescribed medications.
- Administer basic comfort care.
- Collect samples for testing and perform routine laboratory tests.
- Assist physicians and registered nurses in performing tests and procedures.
- Monitor and clean medical equipment.
Patient and Family Communication
- Listen to patient concerns and discuss the care provided.
- Help a patient's family understand procedures.
- Educate patients' families on how to provide care.
Collaboration and Quality
- Work collaboratively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure continuity and quality of healthcare delivery.
- Partner with the healthcare team to provide services focused on promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health.
- Partner with the healthcare team to provide services focused on prevention, treatment, and palliation of illness and injury.
Professional Accountability and Development
- Remain accountable for their own practical nursing practice and seek assistance when care needs go beyond individual competence level to maximize patient outcomes.
- Demonstrate leadership by fostering continued self-growth to meet the challenges of an evolving healthcare system.

Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Diploma in Practical Nursing (2 years) after high school or equivalent.
Experience
- 2+ years of work experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- For Qatari nationals, offspring of Qatari women, offspring of residents, or graduates of the Practical Nursing Program in Qatar, refer to DHP Circular No. 15/2022 and No. 14/2023.
- Exceptions to the experience requirement may be granted for Qatari nationals (internal and external candidates), with a reduction of up to two (2) years.
Certification and Licensure
- LPNs must apply for registration to the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) and must be eligible to be licensed in the State of Qatar.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Skills & Competencies

- Fluency in written and spoken English.

- For a DHP licensable role, the experience requirements mandated by the Department of Healthcare Professions, along with the defined scope of practice, must be strictly followed.
