Lead Engineer- Electrical

Role Overview

Lead Engineer - Electrical at ENOC, DUGAS business division. Acts as Technical Advisor and Subject Matter Expert on Electrical systems for the entire plant.

Role Purpose

This role ensures the application of engineering and technology skills in the development and support of electrical systems, processes, and change requests for the Operations and Maintenance Departments. The role manages the design and execution of electrical engineering projects, provides technical expertise to the maintenance team, and delivers engineering packages based on equipment load lists and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Design

• Lead the development and implementation of capital projects relating to electrical systems for process improvements and plant expansions.
• Provide expertise in design, installation, and commissioning of electrical systems.
• Manage the design and execution of electrical engineering projects using design tools such as ETAP/EDSA.
• Develop engineering packages on the basis of equipment load lists and project requirements.
• Manage development of electrical design of substations, including FEED and detailed engineering documents from PDP/Load List.

Design Documentation and Technical Specifications

• Manage production of design documents relating to electrical engineering for FEED, Detailed engineering, and PMC packages.
• Perform expertise over equipment sizing calculations for Transformers, Switchgears, Circuit Breakers, UPS, Battery Chargers, Cables, and other electrical equipment.
• Prepare scope of work for outside consultants and contractors, including technical standards, specifications, datasheets, equipment sizing calculations, and layouts.
• Prepare purchase requisitions.
• Review design documentation.

Installation, Commissioning, and Supervision

• Manage installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities of all HV/LV electrical equipment, pumps, compressors, and related systems in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Prepare inspection plans and monitor inspection reports.
• Identify when a project moves out of the norm and take appropriate remedial action.
• Prepare method statements for work to be undertaken as required.
• Coordinate with other concerned departments to ensure site work is carried out as per requirements.
• Supervise work of outside contractors and in-house personnel as required.
• Ensure sufficient resources to a project to ensure safe and on-time execution.
• Execute projects and assignments in the field, including installation and commissioning.

Technical Expertise and Analysis

• Provide technical expertise to maintenance team for recurring problems in electrical systems.
• Offer expertise in relay coordination and protection calculations.
• Offer expertise in the use of industry renowned electrical design software, ETAP and EDSA, and conversance with industry codes and standards such as IEEE and IEC.
• Offer expertise in design and execution of cathodic protection systems and capability to carry out design calculations of DWGB and TRU of CP systems.
• Carry out root cause analysis for recurring electrical problems.
• Undertake technical evaluation and finalization of consultants and contractors.

Maintenance and Reliability

• Assist Maintenance Department by preparing detailed overhauling and preventive maintenance scope of work for retrofit of equipment such as existing Transformers and HV/LV Switchgear.
• Demonstrate familiarity with reliability studies, including Life cycle cost and TPM.
• Demonstrate familiarity with latest state of the art switchgear relays complying to IEC 61850, as well as obsolete electromechanical relays (GEC make).

Procurement and Materials

• Order material for Capex requirements.
• Expedite orders to ensure on-time delivery.
• Ensure ordered materials delivered to site are in accordance with the purchase order.

Compliance and Safety

• Ensure compliance with DUGAS engineering requirements and standards and other relevant IEEE/IEC standards.
• Operate in accordance with the requirements of the Safety, Health and Environment Policy.
• Ensure DUGAS EHS policies and requirements are adhered to by DUGAS employees and contractors undertaking projects.

Crisis Response

• Respond to any plant breakdown, shutdown, or equipment failure at all times to ensure operational continuity.

Policies and Procedures

• Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures, and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

Qualifications & Experience

• University degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 10-12 years of progressive experience preferably in the oil, gas, or petrochemical industry.
