Ice Plant Operator

Role Purpose

Under the supervision of the Ice Plant Supervisor, the Ice Plant Operator directs and is responsible for all operations of the Ice Plant.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Equipment

• Perform daily tasks covering assigned Ice Plant activities.
• Operate material handling equipment, including forklift, pallet jack, and man lift.
• Provide technical assistance to sub-contract personnel and daily Ice Plant operations.
• Maintain knowledge of ice plant equipment, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Monitor ice production and water sources sampling.
• Understand test results from approved laboratory sources.

Supply & Inventory Management

• Conduct ordering, tracking, receiving, storage, distribution, maintenance, and turn-in of supplies and equipment.
• Ensure compliance with first-in-first-out rotation and shelf life policies.
• Perform expenditure research and authorization.
• Execute supply ordering, receiving, issue, and inventory functions.
• Maintain full accountability for all property control and property records.

Safety & Compliance

• Attend training and ensure best safety practices are followed.
• Maintain copies of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for applicable supplies received.
• Possess knowledge of material safety data sheets (MSDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class.
• Comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
• Maintain the Ice Plant Key Control System.

Stakeholder Management & Governance

• Interface with designated government representatives and other contractor elements to ensure smooth operations and compliance with government directives, standards, and needs.
• Maintain all records in accordance with applicable US Military Regulations.

Reporting

• Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and other situational reports.

General

• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent. Must provide a copy of diploma.
• Minimum of five (5) to six (6) years of experience in ice plant operations, warehousing, or inventory control required.
• One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Driver's license required.
• ServSafe / Food Handlers certification required.
• Must be able to obtain a forklift operator's license.

Skills & Competencies

• Read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Operate material handling equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, and man lift.
• Apply knowledge of material safety data sheets (MSDS) and product storage requirements based on hazard class.
• Troubleshoot and repair ice plant equipment.
• Interpret test results from approved laboratory sources.

Additional Information

Working Conditions

• Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions including hot, dry, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in winter and 130 degrees in summer months.
• Includes some industrial production environment conditions.

Physical Requirements

• Medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations.
