Hook Up Engineer

Role Overview

Hook Up Engineer at McDermott. This role applies conceptual knowledge of hook-up activities within offshore EPCI projects, solving straightforward hook-up problems with moderate guidance from colleagues and leadership.

Role Purpose

Analyze and resolve a range of hook-up engineering problems using technical experience, judgment, and precedent. Build knowledge of company processes and customers while understanding key business drivers and applying them to problem-solving in straightforward situations.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Read, understand, and implement the Company's Health Safety Environmental and Quality Policy and arrangements described in the Company Management System.
• Ensure compliance with applicable industry codes, standards, regulations, and contractual requirements.
• Participate in HAZID discussions and asset incident or hazard investigations and communicate findings to PMT and Senior HU Engineer.
• Certified in relevant safety and environmental regulations (e.g., OSHA, HSE) is preferred.

Pre-Engineering & Planning

• Participate in and provide field guidance for pre-engineering and pre-construction surveys.
• Review drawings for constructability and identify specific issues and coordinate resolution.
• Review and formulize discipline scope of work, schedules, and specifications; understand deliverable requirements.
• Review material requisitions in compliance with project specifications prior to order.
• Prepare hook-up task sheets and review task sheets as appropriate.

Execution & Delivery

• Develop and issue final hook-up construction work packs.
• Ensure all engineering deliverables (drawings, materials, and procedures) are available for hook-up execution.
• Execute hook-up activities on assigned projects, following project schedules, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Provide technical support and guidance to project teams during planning and execution phases.
• Oversee and manage all hook-up activities by project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure smooth execution of hook-up activities.

Scheduling & Resource Management

• Ensure efficient sequencing of hook-up activities and review hook-up schedules, synchronizing with other disciplines.
• Enable resource forecast and manpower loadings.
• Manage timely delivery of documentation, fabrication, materials, personnel, and vendors aligned to hook-up schedule.
• Coordinate materials with load-out plans at yards and ship to offshore locations in optimum vessel sorties.

Scope & Change Management

• Monitor scope changes and inputs to DTCMS/CAT.
• Monitor and report implementation-related changes and growth during the course of the project, specifically related to hook-up.

Coordination & Stakeholder Management

• Travel to different region facilities onshore and offshore to assist project team and coordinate execution aligned to project schedule.
• Provide field guidance and ensure compliance with Company specification.
• Provide regular progress updates to project stakeholders, highlighting any significant milestones, challenges, or deviations from project plans.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure timely completion of all hook-up activities.
• Participate in project review meetings to provide insights and feedback for process improvement.

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, checklists, and documentation to capture all relevant activities, observations, and outcomes throughout the hook-up process.

Leadership & Development

• Exhibit leadership skills within own discipline and assist trainee engineers and freshers.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or relevant field).
• 6 years of experience in offshore hook-up activities within the EPCI industry.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficient knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., API, ASME, IEC, NEC).
• Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
• Excellent project management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with project teams and stakeholders.
• Proactive, adaptable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Additional Information

• Travel to onshore and offshore facilities as required for project coordination and execution.
