General Practitioner

Role Overview

General Practitioner at NMC Healthcare, based in the United Arab Emirates, delivering diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of illnesses, diseases, and infections in Obstetrics and Gynecology patients.

Role Purpose

To apply medical knowledge and skills in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of illnesses, diseases, and infections in Obstetrics and Gynecology patients, while working within General Practitioner privileges as defined by the Department of Health and supporting specialist-led care.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis

• Examine and talk to patients to diagnose their medical conditions.
• Conduct preventive or promotive healthcare services for any patients coming in.
• Make notes, both as a record of treatment and for referral.

Treatment and Prescribing

• Follow protocols regarding prescribing medicines, lab tests, and Radiology.
• Administer preventive vaccinations as and when required.
• Keep patients for observation for short periods only.
• Provide general care to patients in hospital wards and in outpatient clinics.

Specialist Coordination

• Call or inform Specialists and Consultants accordingly for further take-over, if need be.
• Refer patients to Specialists as and when the need is identified.
• Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment.

Operational Deployment

• Work in all areas of hospital, including Obstetric wards and Labour room, depending on experience and deployment by Head of Department.
• Work within assigned privileges to support the care of Obstetric and Gynaecology patients.
• Accompany patients for home visits if deployed.
• Provide support for patient transfer (in and out), if deployed.
• Be willing to travel out of UAE for patient transfer, if need be.

Governance and Standards

• Follow standard protocols as per privileges of General Practitioner defined by Department of Health.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable local regulations and requirements.
• Maintain professional quality standards to meet those of the JCI and Department of Health.
• Department of Health reporting as per statutory and regulatory guidelines.

Collaboration and Professional Development

• Work with other doctors as part of a team.
• Participate in healthcare-related activities such as medical camps, outdoor check-ups, and social and corporate social responsibility activities.
• Promote health education among patients.

Qualifications & Experience

• Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship.
• At least three years of practice as a General Practitioner.
• Must have license to practice by Department of Health.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Arabic desirable but not mandatory.
