Role Overview

Front End Developer at Chalhoub Group, Level Shoes. This is an e-commerce web team role serving luxury retail across multiple countries and languages in the GCC.

Role Purpose

You will build and maintain the customer-facing storefront for a luxury retail platform. Day-to-day, you'll develop user-interface components with React and Next.js, integrate them with GraphQL commerce APIs, and profile and improve front-end performance.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Architecture

• Build highly responsive, reusable UI components with React and Tailwind CSS design system.
• Write application logic in JavaScript following React and Next.js patterns across both the Pages Router (SSR/SSG/ISR via getServerSideProps / getStaticProps) and the App Router (React Server Components, nested layouts, server/client components).
• Contribute to the gradual migration toward the App Router, ensuring Pages Router and App Router code coexist cleanly throughout the transition.
• Contribute to and extend the front-end architecture and shared component library, documented in Storybook.

Integration & APIs

• Integrate the UI with GraphQL APIs using Apollo Client against the headless commerce backend.
• Implement internationalized, RTL-ready interfaces (English/Arabic) across multiple country storefronts.

Quality & Testing

• Write and maintain tests: unit/component tests with Jest + React Testing Library and E2E/regression tests with Cypress, and catch visual regressions with Storybook + Chromatic.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold code quality through ESLint/Prettier and CI checks.
• Troubleshoot and debug interface and application code across browsers and devices.

Performance & Optimization

• Monitor and improve front-end performance and Core Web Vitals.

Collaboration & Requirements

• Collaborate with product, design, and back-end teams to turn requirements and UI designs into working features.
• Review application requirements and interface designs, surfacing edge cases and accessibility considerations early.

Qualifications & Experience

• Proven experience working as a React.js / front-end developer.
• Hands-on experience with the Next.js framework, comfortable working in both the Pages Router and the App Router — including SSR, SSG, ISR data fetching and React Server Components.
• In-depth knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, CSS, and modern front-end tooling.
• Strong experience with Tailwind CSS.
• Experience consuming GraphQL APIs, ideally with Apollo Client.
• Previous experience creating or maintaining a design system / shared component library.
• Experience with component-driven development and Storybook.
• Experience with automated testing — unit/component (Jest, React Testing Library) and E2E (Cypress).
• Familiarity with UI / visual regression testing practices.
• Experience with browser-based debugging and performance/profiling tools (e.g. Chrome DevTools, Lighthouse).
• Experience with CI/CD tools and Git-based workflows.
• Good understanding of responsive design, cross-browser compatibility, and web accessibility (a11y).

Nice to Have

• Experience migrating a Next.js codebase from the Pages Router to the App Router.
• Experience with internationalization (i18n) and building RTL (Arabic) interfaces.
• Experience in e-commerce / headless commerce (e.g. Magento) and integrating payment providers (e.g. Adyen, Checkout.com).
• Familiarity with feature flags / A-B testing tools (e.g. GrowthBook).
• Familiarity with TypeScript.
• Experience with Docker and containerized deployments (Bitbucket Pipelines or similar).
• Familiarity with React state/data patterns (Context API, Apollo cache) and form libraries (React Hook Form).
