FIELD.DRILLER I

Role Overview

Field Driller I at Nabors. This position is responsible for ensuring that work in and around the drill floor and BOP, as well as rig up and rig down procedures and drilling operations, occurs in a safe and effective manner, thereby meeting and/or exceeding Nabors Drilling Company's and the contracting Company's goals and objectives for safety, production and budget. The Driller works under the direction and supervision of the Rig Manager.

Role Purpose

To oversee all drilling operations on the rig floor, maintain safety standards for the drill crew and support personnel, manage equipment operation and maintenance, and ensure drilling activities align with company objectives and established operational plans.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Drilling Management

• Monitor the progress of the drilling operation and determine when bits need to be changed.
• Operate the rig utilizing rig controls while monitoring operation of various equipment including pump pressures, weight indicator, and drill string weight.
• Operate pumps, rotary table, draw-works and drill pipe during drilling activities.
• Adjust mud pumps to maintain the proper circulation rate.
• Ensure drilling operations follow the established plan.

Equipment & Maintenance

• Oversee proper rig up and rig down procedures.
• Oversee continual preventive maintenance and repair of equipment used in drilling operations.
• Ensure continual cleaning and housekeeping in and about the drill floor.
• Possess knowledge of drilling rig equipment capacity and functionality including but not limited to Canrig Top Drives, accumulator units, and draw works.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure the safety of the drill crew and all support personnel working in and about the drill floor.
• Possess advanced knowledge of emergency shut-in procedures and respond to any emergency efficiently and professionally.
• Make important judgment decisions that affect the safety of the crew.

Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement

• Anticipate potential problems, pre-plan and implement corrective action in a timely manner to ensure outcomes reach company goals for drilling operations.
• Work with the Rig Manager to assist with post-analysis reviews of critical actions and implement ongoing best practice activities for future operations.
• Assist the Rig Manager with troubleshooting and problem-solving duties in a decisive manner.

Training & Development

• Together with the Rig Manager, continually train and develop employees working on the drilling rig to meet employee career goals while meeting the needs of the company.
• Substitute for a Floorhand in the absence of a trained Floorhand.

Communications & Leadership

• Give verbal instructions clearly and concisely.

Other Duties

• Perform other duties as required by the Rig Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience as Driller with 3000 HP Rig.
• Strong knowledge of the Floorhand, Motorhand and Derrickhand positions.
• Preferred: High school diploma, certificate or equivalent.
• Preferred: AC and/or SCR Rig experience.
• Preferred: Completion of Certified Driller Level Well Control course that is unexpired.

Skills & Competencies

• Ability to perform essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Ability to wear respiratory protective devices.
• Ability to communicate in English — read, write, and speak fluently.
• Experience using computer and multiple screens to monitor drilling activities.
• Ability to perform basic math functions.
• Ability to operate rig utilizing rig controls.
• Attention span to stay alert and attentive for up to 12 hour tour.
• Ability to work well with others while working in a close environment for extended periods of time with minimal ability to leave the driller's cabin.
• Ability to stand or stand and walk throughout the tour while wearing steel-toed boots.
• Ability to occasionally climb steep stairs and walk on steel decking as well as gravel, board roads and areas that can be covered in drilling fluids, mud, snow and ice.
• Ability to repetitively climb stairs and ladders.
• Ability to work in an unprotected environment.
• Ability to lift, carry and work with items weighing upwards of 35 lbs.

Additional Information

• Work schedule: 28 days on and 28 days off, including holidays, weekends and/or days and nights.
