Role Overview

Field Driller I at Nabors. This position is for a 3000 HP Rig operation.

Role Purpose

The Driller is responsible for ensuring that work in and around the drill floor, BOP, rig up and rig down procedures, and drilling operations occur in a safe and effective manner, thereby meeting and exceeding Nabors Drilling Company's and the contracting Company's goals and objectives for safety, production and budget. The Driller works under the direction and supervision of the Rig Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Crew Management

• Ensure the safety of the drill crew and all support personnel working in and about the drill floor.
• Make important judgment decisions that affect the safety of the crew.
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of emergency shut-in procedures and respond to any emergency efficiently and professionally.
• Give verbal instructions clearly and concisely.

Operations & Equipment Oversight

• Oversee proper rig up and rig down, continual preventive maintenance and repair of equipment used in drilling operations.
• Monitor the progress of the drilling operation and determine when bits need to be changed.
• Operate rig utilizing rig controls while monitoring operation of various equipment including pump pressures, weight indicator, and drill string weight.
• Operate pumps, rotary table, draw-works and drill pipe.
• Adjust mud pumps to maintain the proper circulation rate.
• Ensure drilling operations follow established plan.
• Ensure continual cleaning and housekeeping in and about the drill floor.

Problem-Solving & Continuous Improvement

• Anticipate potential problems, pre-plan and implement corrective action in a timely manner to help ensure outcomes reach company goals for drilling operations.
• Assist the Rig Manager with troubleshooting and problem-solving duties in a decisive manner.
• Work with the Rig Manager to assist with post-analysis reviews of critical actions and implement ongoing best practice activities for future operations.

Training & Development

• Together with the Rig Manager, continually train and develop employees working on the drilling rig to meet employee career goals while meeting company needs.
• Substitute for a Floorhand in the absence of a trained Floorhand.

Other Duties

• Perform other duties as required by the Rig Manager.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 3 years experience as Driller with 3000 HP Rig.
• Strong knowledge of the Floorhand, Motorhand and Derrickhand positions.

Skills & Competencies

• Knowledge of drilling rig equipment capacity and functionality including but not limited to Canrig Top Drives, accumulator units, draw works.
• Ability to perform basic math functions.
• Ability to communicate in English—read, write and speak fluently.
• Ability to wear respiratory protective devices.
• Experience using computer and multiple screens to monitor drilling activities.

Additional Information

Work Schedule & Physical Requirements

• Ability to work 28 days on and 28 days off, including holidays, weekends and days and nights.
• Attention span to stay alert and attentive for up to 12 hour tours.
• Able to work well with others while working in a close environment for extended periods with minimal ability to leave the driller's cabin.
• Able to stand or stand and walk throughout the tour while wearing steel toed boots.
• Occasionally climb steep stairs and walk on steel decking as well as gravel, board roads and areas that can be covered in drilling fluids, mud, snow and ice.
• Must be able to repetitively climb stairs and ladders and work in an unprotected environment.
• Able to lift, carry and work with items weighing upwards of 35 lbs.
• Ability to perform essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma, certificate or equivalent.
• AC and/or SCR Rig experience.
• Completion of Certified Driller Level - Well Control course that is unexpired.
• Past Kuwait experience and valid, transferable Kuwait Residence.

Candidates with past Kuwait experience and valid, transferable Kuwait Residence are preferred. Candidates without the minimum 3 years experience as Driller with 3000 HP Rig will not be considered. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
