Role Purpose

To teach maritime business, finance, and accounting courses while conducting research-informed teaching and contributing to the Academy's strategic priorities. The role combines strong teaching skills with applied research and industry engagement, delivering courses that bridge theory and practice in one of the UAE's most dynamic sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Course Delivery

• Teach a set of subjects including Commercial Ship Management, financial and management accounting, and marine insurance across all types of degree and diploma levels as directed by the Head of Maritime Business Program.
• Deliver lectures and lead seminar groups using appropriate, innovative, and effective pedagogic approaches.
• Deliver courses in other departments as required by the Line Manager.

Assessment & Learning

• Participate in the examination and assessment process, including setting papers, preparing marking schemes, and agreeing marks with other staff.
• Use appropriate and innovative forms of assessment practices to enhance learning and teaching.
• Provide timely, constructive, formative, and comprehensive feedback to students using all forms of communication.

Research & Professional Development

• Conduct research for career development, aligning with the Academy's ambition to be a research-active institution.
• Remain responsible for updating own discipline knowledge to develop research-informed teaching.
• Bring latest research-based knowledge into the classroom.

Institutional Contribution

• Assist the Head of Maritime Business Program as required to fulfil the Academy's strategic priorities.
• Contribute to program and institutional quality assurance, academic advising, and committee work.
• Ensure full compliance with the requirements of the timetable and the annual academic calendar.

Availability

• Be willing to travel as required and occasionally work outside of standard working hours as stated in the contract.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

• PhD in Finance or Business with academic expertise in maritime studies.
• Experience of teaching in the field of Maritime Business, Finance, and Management Accounting.
• Ability to fluently speak, write, and communicate in English at the highest level of professionalism.

Preferred

• Recognized qualification for teaching in Higher Education.
• Industry body affiliation or membership.
• Experience of working in maritime business, marine finance, and commercial ship management.
• Evidence of research outputs, winning funds, and creating impact from research.
• Educational experience with leading courses and programs, revising course content, and developing new programs and courses.
• Familiarity with CAA standards, quality assurance, and accreditation requirements in the UAE.
• Familiarity with learning technologies including LMS, online assessment, and academic integrity tools.
