Engineer - Design

Role Overview

Engineer - Design at Petrotec Group. The Design Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and refining product designs to ensure manufacturability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness while supporting continuous improvement and successful product delivery.

Role Purpose

Develop and optimize engineering designs that align with production capabilities, quality standards, technical specifications, and client requirements. Ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, compliant with industry standards, and delivered on time.

Key Responsibilities

Design Development

• Create detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications suitable for the process.
• Perform design calculations, simulations, and prototype testing to validate concepts.
• Prepare technical documentation, including bills of materials, assembly instructions, and maintenance manuals.

Optimization & Improvement

• Optimize existing product designs to improve manufacturability, reduce costs, and enhance performance.
• Suggest process improvements and innovative design solutions to enhance efficiency.
• Stay updated with manufacturing technologies, design software, and industry best practices.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
• Liaise with clients and project teams to understand requirements and implement design changes as needed.
• Participate in design reviews, production trials, and problem-solving initiatives.
• Independently manage and lead technical discussions and meetings with clients and consultants.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company guidelines.
• Comply with all QHSE standards, policies, and procedures relevant to your work.
• Actively participate in QHSE meetings and complete all required safety inductions and trainings.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions; take corrective action where possible within your scope.
• Follow guidance provided by QHSE officers and use PPE and emergency equipment correctly.
• Support a safe work environment by cooperating with safety practices and encouraging others to do the same.
• Refer to the OHSMS Manual, Section 4.4.1, for further clarification on individual QHSE responsibilities and accountability.

Qualifications & Experience

• Graduate or Diploma in Engineering, preferably in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related field.
• 7–8 years of experience in designing complex LV switchboards, including IMCS and communication systems using the latest digital numerical protection relays.
• Experience working on Oil & Gas projects will be an added advantage.
• Experience with Eaton products will be preferred.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of LV switchgear products and applications.
• Strong knowledge of protection relay communication and protocols.
• Sound understanding of implementing complex control and protection logic in LV switchboards.
• Ability to select appropriate devices based on technical specifications and project requirements.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or EPLAN for preparing and reviewing GA drawings, SLDs, and electrical schematics.
