Role Overview

EMT Basic position with V2X, physically located in Kuwait in support of WEXMAC.

Role Purpose

Perform specialized duty work functions in preparing for and responding to fire and medical emergency calls, providing Basic EMT level treatment to patients requiring emergency medical care, and safely transporting them to the hospital or medical clinic. This role includes maintaining readiness for emergency call response, educating staff and public on fire safety and prevention, and performing Fire Department activities. The position may also involve staffing the Fire Alarm Communications Center (FACC) to receive calls for emergency assistance, monitor fire alarm systems and emergency reporting phones, and dispatch appropriate apparatus and personnel to emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Response and Patient Care

• Respond to emergency calls and provide Basic life support in accordance with EMS protocols, assisting other members of the department.
• Provide efficient and immediate care to critically ill and injured patients and transport patients to the designated ambulance transfer location.
• Provide pre-hospital emergency medical care for simple and multiple system injuries.
• Assist the Paramedic in determining the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishing priorities for required emergency treatment.

Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance

• Maintain vehicles and equipment in a serviceable and ready condition.

Training and Communication

• Participate in continuing medical education (CME) and training activities, both as an instructor and as a student, depending on the nature and purpose of the course.
• Communicate effectively in writing, verbally, and over the radio or telephone.

Compliance and General Duties

• Comply with all applicable rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures as directed by the Fire Chief, Program Manager, and Base Commander.
• Perform various other tasks as assigned by the Fire Chief or designee.
• Perform other duties and assignments as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Associate's degree is preferred.
• Two years of related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required.

Certifications

• National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or State EMT certification required.
• Healthcare Provider CPR/BLS/AED certification required.
• IFSAC or Pro-Board Certification required to these levels: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Hazardous Materials Operations, Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply, Telecommunicator I/II.
• Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Able to obtain host nation driver's license.

Experience

• Minimum of two years of experience working on an emergency response ambulance required.
• Minimum of two years of experience in emergency healthcare setting required.
• Minimum of five years of extensive fire fighting and emergency service experience required.
• Must be in good standing with their certifying organization and maintain all certifications for the duration of employment.

Other Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must read, write, and speak English fluently.

Skills & Competencies

• Excellent communicative skills, both written and verbal.
• Knowledge of safety and environmental issues.
• Familiarity with various Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Additional Information

Working Conditions

• Must be capable of working in various weather conditions including humidity, rain, wet season, warm/hot, and sunny conditions.
• Worker is subject to atmospheric conditions including one or more of the following that affect the respiratory system or skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Physical Requirements

• Must have the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 45 pounds.
• Must be able to collectively lift, carry, and balance patients who weigh in excess of 100 pounds.
• Must have the ability to pull and reach with both hands; crawl, kneel, bend, and climb.
• Must be able to work outdoors in excessive heat or cold, high humidity, or dry atmospheric conditions.
• Will be exposed to lifting, pulling, and numerous strenuous activities that EMTs face during medical response calls.
• Strenuous work activities will be required in extremely hot and humid or cold conditions during certain parts of the year and time of day.
